Default Some returns from SGC

A few months ago I made a post asking for peoples opinions on which 10 cards I should send to SGC for grading from a group that I was considering. That thread turned into a “why do you want to spend money grading low value cards” argument.

So without any additional commentary, here’s some pics to look at, because we all like looking at cards. I ended up sending 15 cards in. Some pre-war vintage, some non-sport, some new cards that were picked up and not in the original 10….a wide assortment.

Enjoy!

Thanks! I really like those two. Living in Richmond, Virginia, I have grown fond of the various Allen and Ginter sets, and when I saw that Beach card for sale, I just had to have it.

The T201 one was part of a find of T206’s from Pennsylvania (if I remember correctly). I believe it was the only T201 in the lot.

Except for the 1971 Topps and Mayo cut plugs, cards always present better with a black apron no matter the value.

I agree. That black insert is worth the price of admission when it comes to aesthetics.

Buy the slab, not the flip.

Buy the card, not the black apron.

Brian (I live in a relatively apron-free household)

More words to live by...When cracking a slab, don't throw the insert out with the bath water.

Default Cards

Jim- that’s an eclectic group! I’d imagine graders enjoy the variety, different things to evaluate. Well done. Trent King

Jim:

Love the space rocket card. I recently got into golden/silver age sci-fi comic books, especially those with cool covers like your card there.

Thanks, Trent. It is a varied group for sure. I keep telling myself that I don’t collect non-sports cards and then I see something and I’m like “man, I like that!”

Thanks, Phil. My son is into space stuff (Astronomy major) so when I saw that card, I was intrigued. Found out that the Tip Top space set is a highly collected set of the era and that Rocket Freighter card is a short print. A PSA 2 of that card sold last year for $511 so I was really hoping for a 2 on this one even though it’s rough. A 1.5 has got to still be worth something though!

Thanks, Mike. That Stonewall card was an antique store find. I probably paid too much, but the condition for a 1911 card was fabulous and the T68 set is highly collectible. So many great cards in that set. The colors really do pop against that black insert. That card is definitely one that I keep looking at in amazement.

Yeah, love your eclectic taste in cards.

Also think that Beach is a great image, and love the design on that Martha Jefferson card. Maybe because I don't remember ever seeing that issue before. Distinctive for it's time period.

Of course the Stonewall is a work of art. Would love to see a full set of those in SGC slabs.
