Everyone has their opinions about what is acceptable when posting on this board and many are willing to share these. I want to continue the openness that Elliot allowed, but there is one type of post that I will delete without hesitation, namely, posting of personally indentifiable information without that person's permission. This includes an email address, physical address, and/or a phone number. If you want to publish your own info, that's your prerogative.

Bill

...to track down personal information should not go unpunished. Rarely, if ever, will you get an admission of guilt in this regard, but MW has admitted doing it and so I believe it deserves some sort of sanction, whatever is appropriate, I don't care. I just don't think it should go unpunished.

This isn't a military tribunal, it's a vintage card discussion board. Bill has said not to post personal information - hopefully this will be heeded.

Based on the way the discussions between you and MW have gone, I can understand that you would like to see him "punished" (which I assume implies banning) - this would allow you to post whatever tripe you desired without fear of anyone contradicting you.

I do a an IP search on most new posters here that refuse to give their real name. Guess you better sanction me too.

I believe that personal attacks are unwarranted and that no one should be looking up anyone's IP address. I think it is creepy and I don't think I'm alone.

Obviously you're not alone in looking up people's IP addresses or admitting it.

Of course MW shouldn't be banned, his knowledge far outweighs his obnoxious attitude as far as this board is concerned. I can tolerate his belligerence in order to gain experience. It's a small price to pay, actually.

(I think it's happened twice in the last month, actually) I have their permission to do so. But--how can you tell whether I have permission or not? It's only my word...

Julie-

Because you're the least anonymous poster we know, that's why . To be on the safe side, other people's email addresses shouldn't be posted, but there are exceptions, like for dealers who use email for business purposes.

The easy litmus test is: is there a possibility this person would mind having their info made publicly available by me? If you don't know for certain, you should leave it out.

Bill
