I will upgrade it sometime in 2014, as it is my favorite pre-war card, but I absolutely love my Johnson portrait.

I added some nice HoF rookie cards this year. Two of note are Mays and Mathews. The Mathews is one that was a goal for 2013, although I busted my target price in acquiring it.

My favorite card is one received from board member John V.

My oldest card in my collection and one of a Detroit legend.

I think Kevin is the winner this year. Just so people don't overlook that beauty, his Lowell card pictured above is an extremely rare card...try finding another in your lifetime. You might as well quit now Kevin...

Great stuff in this thread, everybody. Wonka, too.
Dead heat tie for my favorite 2013 pickups.
Always wanted an Ullman postcard. Richard Masson had three or four to choose from at Leon and Scott's table at the National. I picked McGinnity. Couldn't be happier.

This smart looking McGraw Rotograph replaces one I traded earlier and fills the hole in my collection quite nicely. Thanks, Jonathan.

Beautiful OJs Kevin, while the Collins - Lowell is a tough team change (missed that team change on that pose in the book) and condition rarity, I prefer the Vaughn with its player/pose rarity and beautiful contrast with huge angle cut right border. What a beauty!

I'm going to break the rule and post several items that I was able to add to my core collection over 2013 and give thanks to those who made it possible. I've split them into two pics, the large items and the small items.

Among others, thank you Jay Miller, Gary Passamonte, Ted Brown (N175), Toby Peterson (both N172 Conway cards), and Brian Hodes (N172 Deacon White). The Deacon is off-condition but can't be too choosy when trying to collect all the poses. The other items came from eBay and auction houses.

I was able to pick up a couple Detroit scorecards this year but the attached copy is from a home game in 1887. Finding Detroit scorecards with Detroit on the road is easy, finding a home game scorecard, tough.

The Sam Thompson cabinet is nice but hope to trade it for a Detroit example down the road (or buy Detroit/sell Philly). It has been a great 2013 and its not over yet!

Not technically a card, but my favorite none-the-less. Knowing I was having trouble finding one I liked in my price range, my wife painted this for me for my birthday as a "place-holder".

Default easy...

I finally added the T207 Ward Miller about a month ago...completes my T207 Cubs team set!

On to 2014, when I hope to tackle the T202 Cubs in a meaningful way, and perhaps start the T204 Cubs, but that one will be a very long project

Default What a thread!

Some amazing acquisitions across this board. Really humbling the quality of collections people here have.

Here's one of my favourites for the year. In the Hall of Fame, but not for the sport with which he is pictured. Nevers went to University very close to where I'm currently living, and, of course, the tab on the bottom is a great addition to making this card a special card in my collection:

Wow, amazing stuff. I lost count of the Pirates cards in this thread...I am humbled by the caliber of collection I see here. Since I collect a variety of stuff I thought I would pull my favorite of each type. My modest contributions:

Baseball card, prewar: A newly-cataloged Adam Hats card that I've posted here so many times that people are certainly sick of it, but I am very glad to have it:

Baseball card, postwar: 1954 Johnston Cookies Hank Aaron RC:

Baseball memorabilia: A Lefty Gomez matchbook from the 1930s Adam Hats celebrity contest:

Baseball autograph: picked this up at the National:

Surfing/swimming: I have wanted this PC of the Duke for a long time, finally got one:

Soccer: This Pele card is my best soccer pick-up ever [1968 Crack from Argentina]:

Favorite hockey piece: 1964 postmarked Bobby Hull JD MCCarthy PC:

Favorite basketball piece: 1960 Wilt Chamberlain team issue

Favorite football piece: got this in a collection of 1950s-1960s cards I picked up. My favorite set of the 1950s-1960s FB, and Bart Starr was the #1 card in 1968, and the card had the special horizontal design only used for the Packers and Raiders Super Bowl teams:

Favorite nonsport: Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's Superman! 1957 George Reeves fan issue with neat DC comic advertising:

Favorite autograph: Nigel "The Dark Destroyer" Benn: He doesn't sign cards except on special occasions. A friend got this for me at a HOF event:

Favorite boxing card: Tough choosing here but I'd have to go with this 1920s Benny Leonard restaurant PC. I'd been looking for one for years:

Favorite boxing memorabilia: Again, a brutal choice, but I gotta go with this ticket from Jim Jeffries' boxing venue just up the block from my office here in Burbank. Again, an item I'd been hoping to find for a very long time:

And last of all, oddest oddball item is this rodeo PC of future movie star Hoot Gibson learning the hard way that if a horse doesn't want to be ridden, odds are the horse will win. I just love the image:

Jerry, that might be the card of the year.

And seeing that ebay auction in which you got it is definitely my WTF moment of the year.

A favorite is too hard to choose, so here's an unusual one: from 1876, and to my knowledge the first "card" showing a baseball scene in an actual stadium that was used to promote a product. For more, visit http://www.sportingoregon.com/ .

Wow Adam

Amazed at how you spread yourself all over the place, to bunch a different sports and then the non sport.

Darn, would say your definitely not a specialist, but rather a general practitioner.

Cool stuff.
