Great cards everybody. Jeff, I didn't even see that Star Player Cobb. You must of had triplets with no Epidural.

Paul, pretty much! That was the only card I had to have from the moment I opened up the catalogue.

Matt, I was planning on going hard after that scrapbook lot, but changed my mind at the last minute. That's an awesome pickup - I love scrapbooks.

The one item I wanted most was the Casey Stengel team photo, but I got bidders remorse about it. By the time I decided to go and get it at all costs, the auction had just closed. Probably better for me.

I did get this:

Plus a complete set of 40 non-baseball N28s that I had my eye on.

I was shut out again after the same with Mastro a couple of days ago.

However, my one consignment, a 1917 Collins McCarthy Babe Ruth (PSA 2), underperformed by about 25% of what I expected it to sell for. This comes on the heels of my E90-1 Joe Jackson (SGC Authentic-Trimmed) underperforming by about 25% from what I expected in the REA Auction two years ago. I believe these two cards to be premium pieces which should always be in demand and should have a wide collector base of interest. In both cases, I requested a higher starting bid but was told that a lower one would be more beneficial because it would get more bidders involved with my item. In my opinion, the downside is that it takes too many bids just to make it to the level that the starting bid should have been in the first place ($2,500) and ultimately it cost me a lot of money. In this year's auction the starting bid on the Collins McCarthy Ruth was $500.00 with an "estimate" of $1,000/$2,000+. I believe those are rediculous numbers and influenced bidders to think that the card was already overpriced at $4,250 as it sat there for 1 1/2 weeks before the final day of the auction. Only two bids total were received on the last day which was also very disappointing. It seems like most other items in the auction got strong prices and I will be looking for other options for my future consignments.

but when I woke up - I was the winner of the e94 Gold Wagner.

Although it was the lowest graded of the three e94 Wagners in the auction, I actually liked it the best.
Maybe I just like gold.

(There were others I was watching / hoping they would go high - because I have a similar card.... only to see them go pretty low. Anyone else think strong or weak prices overall? ).

I thought the T206 Wagner and the Ruth were both very strong prices...also the K-Bat Ward at 120k I think before BP.

The Holmes to Homes lot I won was at my max bid...was hoping they'd go a little cheaper than that...$2250 before BP, but oh well...I may have slightly overpaid but what can you do.

you would have gotten it. Because I was sleeping at around 11pm.

One more bid would have taken it apparently.

Joe - I figured it might, but decided instead to go stronger after the lot I won and keep the Wagner from it. I also liked the E94 gold Wagner better then the others desipte the lower grade. Enjoy!

...on a card. I was high bidder from 4pm to about 9pm, and was starting to get scared I was going to win it at a price that I really thought was too high. When I got that outbid notice, I was so relieved.

Has that ever happened to anyone?

Actually it only gives me two or three that I don't have, but I'm hoping for about a dozen of them to be upgrades. It'll put me just over 80 (i believe) out of 100 for the set. Most of the ones I'm missing, surprisingly, are from the last two years of issue - 1912 and 1913 - and those two years weren't represented in this auction.

got shut out. my mistake was to not bid early on more lots because i was focused on winning a few lots. I thought i had enough to win at least one of those lots, but in the end the bidding was too strong. I wanted to get into the n300 action at the end, but couldnt because i didnt bid early on any of those lots.

i bid strong on the m110's and the e90-2 lots, especially the lajoie m110 and the e90-2 complete set. but, i was blown out of the water by around 7 pm PST. i couldnt see myself spending 5 figures on one single card or buying the complete e90-2 set when i really only wanted one or two cards.

if the person who won the e90-2 set is reading this, i am interested in purchasing the wagner if willing to sell. thanks

If a board member is the high bidder on the Overland Candy lot (No. 574) and is interested in selling the Keltner, I'm a buyer.

I respect Rob - bid in his auctions - and appreciate the power of the respected auction house. I would have thought of consigning it - but they like bigger $ lots and just figured I'd get the 1000. or so it's "worth"....... 150 independent watchers (many more views) and I try and do business in a straight-up manner.... perhaps it was a closet buyer or two that just prefers to bid on what they like out of a good catalog and can't be bothered with the dilegence many here apply to the hobby. Probably a fair number of collectors don't frequent eBay although i would think more serious collectors do than don't.....

Speaking of Ruth, I just noticed that someone picked up his 1935 4-in-1 Exhibits in PSA-6 for $500! It should have gone for around $2000 shouldn't it?

Picked up the T204 Eddie Collins and 3 Ramly upgrades, as well as a T3 Clarke. Twisted myself in knots over going one bid higher on the T204 Johnson, but sleep prevailed.
