Default Buck Ewing - Harper’s Weekly

A few months ago, I went to visit a paper ephemera dealer friend of mine. I asked him if he had anything new baseball-wise, and he told me that he had this page. He often takes covers of old magazines and tries to salvage what he can from them. I was able to acquire this and finally get it framed and hanging in my new home. It’s the November 9th edition from 1889 with Buck Ewing on the cover.

Just sharing as this is a piece probably not often seen.

Nice. In the 1980’s I made a list of baseball for these. Spent many hours looking thru these magazine at antique store’s & flea markets, not much luck though lol

Default Buck Ewing

Love this magazine and pose of Buck Ewing on the cover. I still think early magazines and newspapers / periodicals with Baseball Stars and HOFers on the cover are truly underappreciated. Congrats on a really nice pickup!

My one and only of the 1882 Providence Grays team that included Vincent “Sandy” Nava the first Mexican-American in major league history . Not in bad company either as this picture also includes 4 Hall of Famers !

One of my favorite pieces that I acquired from Mike Brockman, a fellow Net54 member, just before he passed away. Our annual encounters at the National were a highlight for me, and this piece will always serve as a reminder of him.

Very cool pose, and it looks amazing framed. I think those Harpers are really cool and i think they are super underrated. Some of the earliest images of major players are in/on Harpers and Sporting Life publications
