Default 1928 Ruth Candy Co. in Old SGC Slab - Real or Fake?

I've checked some of the old threads on this frequently counterfeited card, but I'm still incapable of identifying a fake. Any thoughts on this one?

Can you post a picture? That link seems to make you sign up for something...unless I'm doing it wrong.

I can't save clean versions from the site, but I grabbed a couple screenshots.

I'm no expert but I lean authentic based on condition, old label, and it appears the flip has not been messed with.

Yeah, why wouldn't you trust an SGC holder.

It looks good to me. The white areas are pixelated which the copies can’t replicated.

This one that recently sold at Huggins threw me off, with the font and no period after 1927.

I've also seen a couple in SGC slabs with different centering on the Cleveland, OH backs.

Personally I am not 100% ok on either one. Probably ok but definitely not for sure.
I have seen reprints on that kind of stock. I would have to feel the paper. It looks like it could feel rough...which isn't good.

This is why I have my doubts. Several years ago I sat down with Andy Broome (Hi Andy) when he was at Beckett, with these cards and some real ones. The 2 of these that are on brown type paper are reprints. He was 85% sure the whiter one is ok. Therefore, it's not ok LOL.....

Didn't the grading companies stop grading these cards at one point due to the proliferation of frauds?

But honestly, they should be able to tell the difference.

I’d like to change opinion from “looks ok” to “probably not”.BTW I have a ton of respect to Andy Broome.

It should be easy to ferret out the repros with a black light and a microscope. I'm gonna guess that the repros will have a brightener added to the paper and that the printing will vary.
