Default T206 Magie/Magee Portrait Complete Back Run

Thought I'd post this in case anyone had interest. Was lucky enough to acquire a Magee Portrait Old Mill recently which completed my Magie/Magee back run. I've been pursuing this run for the past 4 years and with it's completion will probably ease up on any further T206 purchases in the nearer term though I have been thinking of possibly trying for a similar run on the Kid Elberfeld Washington and NY portrait. Anyway here they are (assuming I can get the pictures to post correctly):

Left to Right:

Magie - Piedmont 150, SGC 20, Factory 25, 2nd District of VA

Magee - EDPG, SGC A, Factory 17, 2nd District of VA
Magee - Hindu, SGC 20, Factory 649, 1st District of NY
Magee - Old Mill, SGC 40, Factory 25, 2nd District of VA
Magee - Piedmont 150, PSA 4, Factory 25, 2nd District of VA
Magee - Piedmont 350, SGC 60, Factory 25, 2nd District of VA
Magee - Sovereign 150, PSA 4, Factory 25, 2nd District of VA
Magee - Sweet Caporal 150, PSA 2, Factory 25, 2nd District of VA
Magee - Sweet Caporal 150, SGC 45, Factory 30, 2nd District of NY
Magee - Sweet Caporal 350, SGC 45, Factory 25, 2nd District of VA
Magee - Sweet Caporal 350, SGC 60, Facxtory 30, 2nd District of NY

Congrats, Robert! It must be nice to completely finish.

If you provide regular scans of all of the cards, I'll make you one of those seamless back run pictures that people usually post (cropping out the slabs).

Cheers,
Steve

Very happy for you!

I remember speaking to you about the Old Mill availability back a year ago or so......and was hoping you landed the Old Mill from a few weeks back. Glad to see you did......

I only have 5 of the Magee back run including a Hindu and EPDG......I get the next OM, ok?

Thanks guys appreciate all the great feedback. What do you think about the same for the Elberfeld Portrait Back Run? I like the idea of linking the tougher Elberfeld Washington Portrait with the NY portraits which is along the same thinking as linking the tougher Magie with the Magee's.

Elberfeld would be a fun one. I've considered going after it after accumulating a few different backs.

Google "Magee portrait old mill t206", and this thread came up. First, congrats on this back run, awesome! Second, was looking at Goodwin and they claim to have the only known graded Magee OM portrait. SGC pop report shows 4, and clearly there is one in this back run. I am sure it's a very hard front-back combo, but anyone know how many there are out there?

I wondered the same thing. Some of those Print Group 1 cards are very hard to find with an Old Mill back. I've been searching for a Merkle Portrait/OM for almost five years.

Wow congrats! Between this and Ryan’s compete back run there are some serious accomplishments happening. For a newbie with a handful of HOFs, randoms and little focus this is further evidence that the Monster is quite the rabbit hole. It’s so intimidating but seeing dedication and accomplishment like this is so motivating.

I believe there are only 2 Magee portrait Old Mill backs. I have an SGC 40 that I purchased in a Goodwin auction early last year and the second is the one currently offered. Up until 2.5 years ago the combined SGC and PSA population reports reflected zero population of that front back combination so it would be very unusual for 4 actual cards to be discovered in that short time period when previously there had not been any known. Relative to the claim that the current offering is the only known example I notified Bill Goodwin of my purchasing an OM from him a year and a half ago and he has removed that "only example known" statement from the description in his live auction detail.

The SGC pop report shows a 40 (yours), a 35 (the one at auction) and two As...

Regardless. Kind of messed up that Goodwin, known for t206 and sellers of a prior Magee Port OM, lists the current one as the only known example. The current bid on that card is high, and I wonder how much of that is the result of that incorrect claim? All that said, I may be a buyer.....

Real nice! And the PSA pop report doesn't even show old mill as an option, let alone list any graded examples. I think the conclusion is that the Magee OM is quite rare, but hardly one-of-a-kind (graded) as (once) touted by Goodwin.

Yup I agree, in my 6 years of watching virtually every major and lesser auction and every t206 on sale on ebay the 2 goodwin cards are the only 2 I have seen for sale. I have been looking for an Elberfeld NY om and have been unable to find one.

Elberfeld NY OM doesn't exist. So you can cross that one off the list.

I wish that someone would tell me that Red Crosses don't exist. All my back runs would suddenly be complete.

T206 says possible not confirmed on that Elberfeld NY OM same status that they showed the Magee portrait OM until a just 2 years ago.

Yeah, and I see why they do it that way, because we can't ever know with 100% certainty that it was never printed. However, in practice we can assume that one almost certainly doesn't exist. Just like a Sov350 Elberfeld Portrait Washington almost certainly doesn't exist and a SC 350/25 Elberfeld NY almost certainly doesn't exist. The only two backs that share Elberfeld NY & Elberfeld Port Wash are Piedmont 350 and SC 350/30. It kind of makes sense too as those two backs were printed in larger quantities than SC 350/25, Sov350 and Old Mill.

Magee is a different case because there are a handful floating out there. There have certainly been some collectors who have known that card exists (at least the guys who owned them). And card target has sales of the two PSA copies that Pat showed. With Elberfeld NY Old Mill, no one has seen it and most Old Mill collectors don't expect it to exist because it doesn't fit the pattern.

Based on the selling price of the Goodwin card, you could turn a nice profit if you did sell it. *

Not an offer, merely an observation.
