I posted this in the 1939-40 Reds thread, but thought I'd post it here as well. If you haven't seen the Lonny Frey Antique Roadshow appraisal, it's pretty cool. Enjoy.
If you have items more specific to the Circa '39 - '40 Reds, go ahead and post them on the other thread. I've seen great items on this thread, so I know they exist. https://video.pbs12.org/video/antiqu...ll-collection/ Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk

A couple score cards from the 1888 season. The notes on one talk about Bid McPhee trying to score in the 10th and getting thrown out. The game ended in a tie. Must have been fun to watch.

The Great Eight (And Sparky)
As a kid growing up in the 70s near the Cincinnati area, this group really made me a baseball and Reds fan for life. I spent many nights after "bedtime" sneaking a small transistor radio under my pillow so I could listen to the Reds' radio broadcasts on 700WLW. With the passing of the first member of the GRT8 (Morgan), I appreciate having this complete signed 1976 Sporting News more than ever. Thanks for the memories!

I forgot about these. Tucked away for a few decades now. Purchased the batting glove and tie from a guy called Whitey who had some attachment to Rose Bench and Carlton. My Dad loved the Tie so I gave it to him. He ended up buying several ties in various colors that he wore often. Whitey then sold my dad this as a Bench Gamer and my Dad then had Johnny sign this at a show and he gave it to me for Christmas. Found out about 20 years ago that is not a gamer but means even more to me than that Christmas years ago.

Cincinnati reds check
IMG_6465.jpg
IMG_6466.jpg Cincinnati Reds check written from Trustee Gary 'August' Hermann to Reds outfielder and National Baseball Hall of Famer Sam Crawford in 1902. This is check no. 2 from The Market National Bank account. Check No. 1 from this account is on display in the Reds Hall of Fame and Museum and was the check written to purchase the Reds in 1902. Sam Crawford has endorsed the check on the back. Rare autograph of Crawford during his playing days with the Reds before becoming a star with the Detroit Tigers. |

Reds Lithograph by Bill Purdom. Signed by the starting nine. Until I saw Kreindler, I thought Purdom was the best baseball artist out there.

Cincinnati Reds auctions are selling mystery MLB authenticated jerseys for $150. Still available. I decided to take a gamble. Money goes to the Reds community fund.

Yeah, I'm nervous. I don't buy packs cause I hate getting less than I paid for. Since this was for charity I didn't feel so negative about it. I'm just hoping I recognize the name and don't say, "who the _______ is this?"

Well this is tiny potatoes compared to most of you but they have big sentimental value to me...seats from Riverfront.

Not tiny at all. Seats from a favorite ballpark are always a big deal.

My Reds Auction items finally arrived by horse drawn mail cart. Tucker Barnhart game used 2020 bat. I decided to get it when he won his second gold glove. And I bought a mystery jersey bag, just hoping to get a name I recognized. I got Tyler Mahle, team issued, Jackie Robinson weekend jersey with Negro League Centennial patch. So that was a win! Happy with both purchases.

Glad you found this thread. I love seeing all of the Reds items floating about. That's a nice looking 48 Klu you have. I am trying to decide what I want to collect this year. I have been thinking that maybe I would focus on Big Klu. I was looking at some of his items on ebay last night.

Anyone out there with photos of the outside of the Palace of the fans
I'm trying to locate any and all who may have any images of the Palace of the fans from outside the ball park?

That's a tough ask. I'm sure that a few exist, but it seems every surviving photo and PC show the spectacular interior. I am eager to see an exterior image as well.

Thanks to a fellow Net54 member, I was able to obtain a 1990 GU Barry Larkin bat. He was the original owner, and bought it at the stadium and still had the original cert.

Type I photo of Cincinnati Reds RHP Jim Maloney's 1st career no-hitter
Here is a recent Reds pickup that I really like.
This is a great action photo of Reds fireballer Jim Maloney taken during his 1st career no-hitter on August 19, 1965 @ Wrigley Field against the hometown Cubs. Ironically, Jim Maloney, up until 1991 was credited with pitching 3 career no-hitters including a 2nd one that he pitched on June 14, 1965. The ML rules that defined what was considered to be a no-hitter changed in 1991. Because Maloney's no-hitter eventually ended in the 10th inning, it was eliminated from the list of official no-hitters. Last edited by Scott Garner; 05-06-2023 at 01:09 PM. |

Maybe that's why Johnny and Pete didn't get along, and refused to speak with one another for so many years!
