I lack 1 2 3 4 5 and 7... not going to go get them, dig through to find the other 44, scan 'em, and post 'em.

Frank,

The fun of it is the scans. I'm aware there are a few people here that have about all of them...but then if it went by that...game over right?

...but there is no way you are going to get people to identify which of 50 cards they own. You would have been better served keeping it to the top 10, especially since that list would not include any Southern Leaguers.

Keeping it to Top 10, I have 4-10:

4. Plank
5. O'Hara (St.Louis)
6. Demmitt (St.Louis)
7. Magie
8. Elberfeld portrait (Washington)
9. Lundgren (Chi)
10. Smith (Chi & Bos)

Ok...thread wasn't taken the way I intended. It was intended for any scanned cards of the one listed. Not a "I own 25-50"...but anyway, looks like everyone has about all of them, so thread over.

We always enjoy showing off our T206 "toughies".
This can be an interesting Thread.

Just disregard the "critics".......

Besides, there haven't been many Threads on the Southern Leaguers.

Up until recently I had 45 of the 50 here, and would not have posted a scan of 45 cards on this thread. That would make for an unbelievably long and unreadable thread if more than a few people with near sets chimed in.

I think the scarcities thread would be very interesting. But, "post all your Southern Leaguers," would be a problem, too. Too many scans, not enough useful data to be gleaned from them.

You "con-ned" me out of it......you twisted my arm......what a buddy you are ?
And, all the good advice you gave me back in the 1980's regarding rare T206's.
I guess things were different in the 1990's.

Barry
All kidding aside.....what's your guess on what that MAGIE (vg) would sell for
nowadays ?

My guess is 10 x .....what you sold it for back in 1998.

Hey- I should have kept it myself. As I recall, it was at least good or better, and I think I paid you $1500 (but it could have been less). Yeah, something close to five figures today.

And I probably gave you my gloom and doom spiel and told you to sell your cards before the inevitable market collapse

The purpose of the thread was not for everybody to post each of the cards on the top 50 they own. That would be rather stupid. It was just to get a scan of each of the cards on the list by board members. I didn't want to see 15 different Paige's. Usually when we've had these kind of threads people would have enough sense to post two or three they have and then see if someone else could fill in the rest.....if one person posted 48 of the 50 cards...would pretty much take any fun out of the thread. Oh well.

I see looking back my comment of "lets see how many of these we own" could be taken as "lets see if we have 100 of any card on the list. So my fault there...it was early in the morning...and I hadn't had any coffee.

I do recall your "gloom and doom" scenario that BB card prices were going to tumble. But, that was
10 years ago, and in your defense, how could ever foresee the impact that Ebay was to make.

Anyhow, the 1500 figure you noted was for the T205 Hoblitzell (no stats) card I consigned to you.

The Magie card, I consigned to you, sold for 2000. Today that card would have probably graded a
"3" or a "40" (depending who graded it). And, on ebay would garner about 20K.

You remember it better than I do- was a Hoblitzell No Stats really worth that much ten years ago? And I don't recall if your Magie would have been a 2 or a 3...20K seems a bit rich, but who knows.

You have to stop apologizing, most of us understood the theme of this Thread. And, it's a meaningful one,
because by the time you have checked-off all the cards you have listed, we'll all be able to recognize the
"toughest 50" in the T206 set.

If my recollection is correct....we were both surprised that the T205 Hoblitzell (no stats)
went for as much as it did. Nowadays, that price would be disappointing.

This card is not graded. If I do get it graded, I am interested in the opinions of board members with regard to which grading company to use. Also, what grade do you think it should be? The back is the same as the front......no damage.

George,

If your looking to sell, then go PSA, looks like solid PSA 3 or PSA 4 o/c. If your keeping the card, there's no reason to get it graded at this time, however I would keep the card in a safe and secure place and try to avoid taking it out too often.

George,
Nice card. For a card like that, either PSA or SGC is fine. I have not noticed any difference in prices realized based on grading company for a card like that. People interested in those sorts of cards look at the card itself. As for the grade, I think either PSA or SGC would give it a vg/ex 4. No qualifiers necessary in my opinion. Centering might be a problem if it were an 8, but not at that level.

George- it looks like a strong 4/50, with an outside shot at a 5/60 if it has no creases and you get lucky. Beautiful card!
SGC is stricter, but I would go with them. They'll probably go with the 50.

Dave, I do apologize for dashing your "fun". To me, scrolling through a long list of scans isn't fun... half a dozen of the regulars could post close to 300 images on this. I perceived it to be a population poll. Sorry for screwing it up for you.
