Default T206 Plank - 1971 Auction (Now With Price Realized)

I am starting research on my next book and part of that involves looking through old issues of The Trader Speaks. I got a kick out of this auction advertisement in the June 1971 issue of TTS and figured you guys would too:

Yet another stop when I finally get my time machine made. (assuming I don't snap them all up in the 1911 trip)

Well the winning price and winner have been revealed. Infamy, I say....

"To save a lot of letter writing, my Plank card which was auctioned off last month went for $320.00. Bill Mastro of Bernardsville, New Jersey was the winner."

Bill was 18-19 years old in 1971, and was either a freshman or a sophomore in college. Where does a young kid like that get $320 to buy a baseball card? And I think he bought a Wagner around that time too. That was a lot of money back then. I am the same age as Bill, and as a college freshman I had enough money in my pocket to buy a record album and a hot lunch at the school cafeteria.
