Maybe it's because of the larger format (and it's Babe Ruth), but I find myself staring this card more than almost any other in my collection. I don't know if it's mesmerizing, but I think the Babe looks kind of sad in this one....

Here is another sad W517 fellow who keeps staring at me as if quietly pleading out for help.

Poor guy looks so forlorn. Always felt bad for Pete.

Am I remembering correctly that he had to borrow the suit he was wearing in the classic HOF induction group photo?

In spite of his sad, itinerant later years, if a fan could find a way to get a letter to him, he'd graciously reply, usually on the stationery of whatever hotel he was staying at when replying.

Agreed! That Jose Mendez image always mesmerizes me!!

From my collection, this postcard (just a wee bit trimmed) of WaJo is the one that does it for me:

Floating heads are always mesmerizing, especially when they are bobbing within a sea of grayish muck.

Mendez was a scary looking guy. Less mesmerizing, more zombie.

As seen in the previously posted 1939 Play Ball, the intense but patently non-evil Charlie Gehringer stare-down has put many a beholder into a trance.

[QUOTE=atx840;2341774]Wagner's Wagner./QUOTE]

I always thought a real nice Frank Bowerman blank back card could be cut out of this T206 Wagner panel.
