Default team photo question

Posted By: rick hastings

I have a friend whose grandfather pitched for the Red Sox and the Browns in the late teen early twenties. His grandfather (Bill Baines) gave my friend three team photos from back then.
they are all on hard stock and measure approx
3 foot long X 12" high. In all three of the players are standing side by side in uniform with their names written above their heads.
Any information about these would be appreciated.
He had them professionally framed and they are beautiful. I have never seen anything like these before or since.

I think you have what were called yard longs. Nice pieces and I'm sure everyone wants to see scans.

Default team photo question

Early Major League Baseball panoramas (long photos) are rare and desirable. For the real photo versions, there are usually no more than a few of each that exist. Many were presentation pieces intended for display on a wall, and came from the estates of players, coaches and other team employees.

The only panorama I own is one from 1918 showing my grandpa and the entire crew on board his Navy destroyer ship. I checked the faces, and Ty Cobb wasn't a member of the crew. The only WWI action gramps saw was when they shot at a submarine that turned out to be a turned over row boat.

I have a reprint of the 1911 World Champion A's.
It's a very impressive picture with the whole team
in their long sweaters. Each player is labeled at
the bottom. The picture is shot in an open field
with a row of houses off in the background.
