Funny - I have had a set of these for 40 years and never realized until looking at your post that they used the Sports Illustrated (and Team Flakes) photos! Do you think they were officially licensed, or did the manufacturer just "borrow" the pictures? Is there any other example of a pre 1975 set with so many hall of famers that comes close to being as inexpensive as this set?
Thanks for posting! |

Hi-
I love this set! Several years ago, I contacted SCD to update their listings as there were definitely multiple print runs. I had them catalog the Drysdale, as well as several other variations. At one time, I owned a red checkered back version of the set as well. The only one I never found (I opened more than 50 sets) is the Yaz version. I sold my binder with all of the variations to a dealer several years ago, and he told me he still has it so one of these days I will buy it back from him. I do really like this set for its affordability, and the star players present. Alan |

Looking some more, it looks like they pulled pictures and the name right from the Sports Illustrated poster ordering poster (which I have always loved!) - don't have the checklist in front of me, but were all 52 card images and captions pulled off of this two sided poster?
