Default "Authentic" 1915 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson

This card just closed on eBay for $10,000. What's the highest price ever paid for a card graded "authentic"? By the way, the seller insists it's not trimmed ...

Highest price paid will be 20+ X more, ie a few of the T206 Wagners are in Authentic slabs.

I see now they say that card was factory cut short, I wonder how they can tell???
Where has it been for last 95+ years to not receive any wear at all?

Only thing I can think of is it was found in a large group or set, and that would help determine it was not altered and just cut short. ??

It's a beautiful card, whether it's truely factory trimmed or not.

It looked to me like the top right side of the border is narrower than the bottom right...

Nevertheless, a beautiful card.

Default Right Side

Right side is clearly trimmed...So you are taking the seller's word over SGC's opinion?

sgc deemed it was factory short. they even went as far as putting unaltered on the flip. imo the min size requirement is stupid. if it's a factory cut and unaltered, then grade the thing. that's a 30k flip.

Default If it's authentic

If it's authentic but factory miscut then SGC should grade it numerically. Seems nonsensical to have an "A" designation that could include altered and unaltered cards and the "unaltered" subtitle doesn't change the "A" grade it received...In short, there should be a different grade to distinguish an "A altered" v. "A unaltered" ones...

I am pretty sure that this is the same card that was just in a Heritage auction. I think that it sold for $7K.

if that's the case, it's a $3000 flip. Even at $10,000, i think it's a steal.

Exact same card and holder, if the card isn't trimmed and it's factory short and not touched since 1915 upon leaving the factory...then it's at most a miscut if you feel the need.

If in fact the card is not trimmed then the AUTH makes no sense at all.

Cheers,

John

P.S. Note to self buy cards in auctions and then re-list them 3 months later on eBay with a great story and bingo 3k in profit not a bad return.

That card had been up there for a while and when I first saw it I don't believe it had any description. As a matter of fact I planned to ask SGC about the card at the Dec philly show but I forgot.

Although the card has great colors I didn't like the cut.

As far as I can tell neither PSA or SGC will grade factory short cards as anything other then authentic.

I don't see this changing at all.

I wondered why this wasn't already done and I have to think that perhaps it was. All I can say is that if I had that carded and it came back from SGC as authentic, and all I wanted was a pay day I sure as heck would crack it and send to PSA. That being said I have to say that the card looks short and as such I would hope that even PSA whould either push it back or slab it the same way.
