Default 1948 Bowman cards info requested

I am going to look at a collection later this week of 1948 bowman cards.. I'm told near complete sets of basketball, football, and baseball... wondering if there are any red flags I should keep an eye out for in terms of making sure the cards are authentic.. the collection is all ungraded.

thanks..

Hi Jamie

I've collected these cards for many years and have not seen any "fakes" in this series.

George Mikan is the key in the Basketball series. A nice one goes for big $$$$. Sammy Baugh is the key in the FB series. More important are the 36 FB cards whose # is divisible by 3.

Jamie,
the only thing I would keep an eye out for is the cards being sheet cut. A number of these (usually basketball) are found to be hand cut from sheets, rather than sold in packs that were properly cut from the factory.

Good luck - hope they all turn out great for you.

The majority of remaining uncut BOWMAN sheets are printer's "rejects".

Cards cut from any such sheets cannot be mistaken for originally issued cards.

Here are three examples from my uncut sheet collection...…

Basketball....Hi# series sheet with incomplete colors.

Baseball....2nd series sheet with overprinted backs.

Football 1st series sheet with overprinted backs.
