Default Clemente rookie.....can it bump?

I believe this card looks "nice for the grade" and deserving of a 7.5 holder. Thoughts anyone?

Wow... gorgeous card. I think its accurately graded. However, the left corner bump and the white mark on his helmet should keep it in its current holder. Are you considering a cross over to PSA? For whatever reasons PSA (as I'm sure you know) seems to have toughened their standards and been grading similar conditioned cards as PSA 6s. Here are a couple of 55s that are currently on eBay. Whatever the slab that card winds up ii, I repeat Wow... gorgeous card!

Greg,

Nice card! Tell us why you believe the card deserves a 7.5 grade. What do you see in the card that would bump up a half grade.

Grading companies do not issue half grades very often, so a likely scenario is the card grades the same at SGC, or lowers to a 6 at PSA as the centering is off.

Looks very nice for the grade and in that holder, but I do think it’s accurate and you won’t get a bump, but I possibly could be incorrect. Very nice either way.

It has pack fresh edges all around. The centering is within the parameters for an 8. The surface gloss seems to be immaculate. The overall print is actually bolder in person than the scans, as my scanner runs a hair on the warm side. Minimal print dotting. The biggest dot is about the size of a grain of fine sand.

The white line is the beginning of a print line, which stops. It does not appear to be "snow" or any type of damage. There are plenty of 7's out there with a print line or roller mark going completely across the card. That being said, this is minutiae by comparison.

The corner in question is not as sharp as the others because of the rough cut on the edges. It is not from wear. This happens frequently on OPC cards. You can see on the front side of the same corner, that it acutally comes to a sharp point where the paper was scored, then has a lot of fluff from the separation.

I grade with all 3 companies on a very regular basis. I have seen far worse Clemente RCs graded 7. On a blind test with two 7's, you would assume a full grade difference. This one is comparable to a lot of 8's out there, which I have seen side by side with this one many times.

AIN'T GRADING FUN! How many times have we sent in the same card, only to receive a different grade? I honestly love the human element of the process. It keeps things interesting.

Acceptable 7.5 or strong 7?

It looks to have a shot. Most likely if you cracked and subbed it comes back a 7 and then maybe after a review or two it might get the bump. Nice looking card. I doubt you could get a 7.5 on a straight crossover.

Good luck and keep us posted if you sub it.

^^ agree with jb67. That is a really nice Clemente RC. While it's been mentioned that the centering isn't perfect, it's still very nicely centered for that issue.

If you do decide to crack it out, I would recommend you at least measure it first. While that won't 100% confirm or deny a trim job, at least you can get some reassurance if it measures correctly.

The funny thing is I think you'd have a better shot at an 8 than you would at getting a 7.5. I could see SGC bumping it to a 7.5 on a review, though, if that's an option.

The "dreaded" SGC 86. Pretty much reserved for off center 88s - IMHO. I think yours is actually quite nicely centered.

As someone else said - may have a better shot at an 88 except I would be leery of a crackout as you never really know what can happen there.

PSA appears to have really tightened up their grading standards with the new 3D hologram so I suspect it comes back a 7 from them but who knows - I also wouldnt be surprised to see it come back with a 6.5.

Still a great card - Is that thing for sale by chance?

i do think you need to qualify the 7.5 or 7 with PSA or SGC

for most cards out there in the world..not every but most...PSA 6-6.5 value wise is what PSA 7s sell for.

so strong sgc 7 perhaps or acceptable 7.5 sgc...but for PSA its a strong psa 6 /psa6.5 to many buyers out there market price wise..

You rarely see a PSA 7 seller when trying to sell a card show comparable SGC 7 sales..but the reverse happens a TON

Default Clemente

Let’s face it....the PSA vs SGC topic is OVERLY tired.

However, if you look at past sales, many of my SGC buy it now sales have crushed the sales of PSA equivalents. If I have a card that truely looks “nice for the grade”, I get a huge premium if I hold my number.

This is why I have my Clemente listed at a deservingly high price.

And it’s negotiable
