Jay was talking the other night in the chatroom (I'm glad I don't haver to see everything that's said in the chatroom!) that I was basically an idiot for selling him my Red Border Colgans Speaker so cheap. Although he does exaggerate its value a little, he's absolutely right! I'd very seldom sold cards, and was selling all my Colgans (which I'd had for a long time). I knew that the regular Colgans were listed with more or less the right price in the guide--but didn't find out till too late that the red borders and tin tops were WAY underpriced. I had about 6 red borders, and I'm sure they all have very happy homes now!

The Wallace is a Tin Top, the Flick (obviously) a Red Border, and the other 2 E254s...

Julie, I have no idea where you get the idea I said you were an idiot. I know I got a good price, but have never even alluded to the fact that you were an idiot for selling me that card for the price you did. I am one of few people on this board that actually sticks up for you, especially in the chatroom, when everyone else is on your case and saying bad things about you.

Personally, I'd like to see Leon or Brian delete this thread as it has nothing to do with anything.

I think you said you wouldn't sell it for 20X the price you paid. Only an IMPLICATION I'm an idiot..."one of the few..."?

I see no reason to delete this thread. Julie put her name by her post...and it is vintage baseball card related. I will not tell folks what they can or can't talk about on the board. It's amazing how many folks tell me I shouldn't allow this or that....and I always give the same answer. regards

Just becuase I I wouldn't sell it for 10x or 20x the price you sold it to me, does not mean that I am implying that you werre an idiot for selling at the price you did. What is DOES MEAN is that I value the card greatly and would not part with the card unless I got an insanely stupid offer for it. It is no reflection on you.

You seem to be doing a good job so far looking for the bad side in everything. You don't have many enemies here, but when things start turning against you on occasion, I am one of the few people that will stick up for. Doesn't mean that everyone else is your enemy becuase they won't stick up for you. I just have advantage of having to gotten to you personally when I lived in SF.

Try not to look for the bad in everything. Contrary to popular Berkeley belief, everything is not a conspiracy

I just said it was news to me that you were "one of the FEW" who stood up for me. I don't require any standing up for, actually; I can stand up for myself.

And i didn't mean to turn a thread into a war between Jay and me, either...the "one of the FEW" just got to me...

Leon, that's fine. It's just really annoying when something said in the chatroom is misunderstood and there are 1 or 2 other people besides me and Julie in the room. Zach was there and maybe Richard. Not sure if he was there or not when Zach I discussed the Speaker. This is something she could have jsut emailed me about. She has my addy.

This was not something that needed to be clairified on the board.

Leon, lol. I got to KNOW her personally. She really is a great person.

Julie,

Are you still in the market for a nice looking T206 Herzog (Boston)? I have a very nice one that I may be willing to part with in trade.

Let me know.

Paul

1st RULE: You do not talk about CHAT ROOM.
2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about CHAT ROOM.
3rd RULE: If someone says "stop" or goes limp, the fight is over.
4th RULE: Only two guys to a fight.
5th RULE: One fight at a time.
6th RULE: No shirts, no shoes.
7th RULE: Fights will go on as long as they have to.
8th RULE: If this is your first night at CHAT ROOM, you HAVE to fight.

(BTW, I lost interest in a fight once and went limp, but no one noticed)

In summary, does this thread indicate that the RED border Colgans are under valued as related to the price guide?

Is there an X factor that collectors might be able to use to guess at the value of the RED border Colgans as opposed to a regular Colgans card? For example, the RED border Colgans are worth 5x more than a regular Colgans card. I have no idea on the valuations so the 5x figure is just an example.

prices in the guide would indicate. This is PARTICULARLY true if the red border completely encircles the picture--and is not just a "new moon" to the picture.

Paul, a look--very brief--at my "20th century " page (www.julievognar.com/home) would answer your question, To save you the trouble, I got a nice one.

Since my name was mentioned, I thought I would respond:

- Yes, I was in the chatroom last night, but was not paying much attention as I was packing some stuff up for my first submission to SGC - yea! Anyways, at 1:30 in the morning, I was half asleep anyways.

- I do remember some mention about Colgans, but it was not too interesting of a topic for me as I feel that the corners on those are a little too rounded for my collection taste, so I zoned out. The topic of Adult Swim was also was not strong enough to keep me from concentrating on packing my cards.

- I tried to chat with you Julie about a dozen or so 70's Calbee Oh's that I am sending into SGC, but you left the chat before I could. I figure, since you are reading this thread, here's my opportunity.

- Did I just violate the "What is said in the chatroom stays in the chatroom" rule with my 2nd point regarding the Adult Swim? oops

- Great Fight Club reference.

- Lay off the Bezerkley references! The only thing Berkeley people are paranoid about is if the workers at Blondies are adding "extra" toppings on your pizza.

Weird, I pre-ordered the 2006 big book from Amazon yesterday, even selected the slower "free shipping". I just received an email from amazon telling me my book has been shipped....my 2002 edition just wasn't accurate enough anymore

I really am sorry I got into this stupid argument with Jay. Apologies.

Now look what you made me do! I bought a couple of Howes...the best ones...

My Standard Catalog shipped too.

I have to say, I had to look real close at Julie's Flick as it looked like it spelled out something else at first glance.

Richard, I'm chortling about the Blondie's comment. It's just a little too accurate for my taste. Kinda like picking out the non-tatooed, non-pierced, educated person at Tower Records.

I always prefered Kip's or Arinel. Actually, there used to be a card shop next to Arinel in the foot mall on Durant. Dropped most of my free cash there in the late 1970s.

What are you doing in Tower? You should have been buying your wax at Leopolds. Then again, my taste ran towards punk and new wave and Tower didn't carry much of that and Leopolds specialized in it.

If you guys remember Barington Hall on Dwight Way near Shattuck, I used to live on the top floor of the big brown house next to it.

Rode to SF (the Asian Art Museunm, where I had to audit a new volunteer, ona 4-car BART with 50,000 peace marchers in it. Nobody offered me a seat! When I got out of the Museum at about 4, there was a riot squad standing at the ready (sticks in both hands) lining Hyde street (peace marchers were all looking at them). I asked one cop "Is there a problem, or are you just here to make sure there isn't one?" "..Just here to make sure there isn't ine,": he said, never taking his eyes ofr the PMs, or smiling.

Lad, there's a sand flea on your nose.
I don't want to hear your eyeballs click.
I just want to see your eyeballs looking straight ahead, and frozen in time.
That sand flea is your friend, and he has to live too.

Pete, that was before a certain PI DI marched some boots into a P I swamp, and lost about a dozen of them.
After that, PI became somewhat of a vacationers paradise.
