There's a PSA 4 N300 in the current Clean Sweep Auction.

I would buy either an N300 Mayo or an N162.

For your $3-4K budget, I would go with either a PSA 4 N162 or a PSA 4 Mayo.

I would get an Old Judge Anson with a nice photo but enough back issues to knock the grade down to an SGC30 or 20.

I thought about an Old Judge, but how often do they even come up for sale? It seems to me that N162, N28 and Mayo's are almost always available.

Dan,
I excluded the Old Judge for that very same reason. The N162 and Mayo are always available, but the Old Judge is so hard to find. Also, the N172 Ansons that I see are often so faded and washed out. If there is a lowere grade OJ with a great image, I would prefer that over the N162 or N300.

Yes, I would definitely prefer an OJ. I think the last one I saw on ebay was a skinned/trimmed one (may have been Dan McKee's?) that sold for $500. The ad was trimmed off, but if I remember correctly the photo was nice and clear. I don't recall seeing any other n172 Anson's for sale for quite a long time.

The fact that a nice n172 Anson is hard to find and not seen everyday makes it far more attractive to me. That's the card I would go with.

I would go for an N172 Old Judge even in a "1" grade but a nice image and decent looking front.
