Did anyone, I mean ANYONE on this board really think the Red Sox had a chance in hell of making it to game 7 after being down 3-0? I know I didn't. Tommorow either we get a miracle, or the curse rears it's head in a supreme act of cruelty. Baseball doesn't get much better than this...

that a team in professional baseball has come back to force a game seven after being down 3-0. Twice in the NHL a team has come back from 0-3 to win a series (Flyers in 1975 & Maple Leafs in 1941 or 42).

I'm not a fan of any of the teams (stupid Twins!), but I really don't think deep down that Boston fan wants to win a World Series. If that happened, what the heck would they have to complain about? Futility and heart-break is what the Red Sox are all about, and have been since 1917 (or whenever they traded Ruth). They would lose their identity.

Im willing to bet every true red sox would rather win the world series than have something to complain about.I honestly cant even fathom someone saying,'oh no if they win the series ill have to be happy and celebrate and look forward to next year maybe winning again instead of thinking its never gonna go right for us'

The "wait 'til next year" Dodgers were always up for a rematch with the Yanks, in the 50s.

I agree, Boston has found its niche in baseball history, and they like it.

It was the Islanders in 1975 that came back from a 3-0 deficit, not the Flyers. It was 1942 when the Maple Leafs did it.

Not down 3-0, but I actually did after Boston won Game Four, to go down 3-1. The baseball Gods are suckering the Red Sox fans in, just so they can crush them one more time.

You figure Sox fans grumble all winter how the team got dominated by the Yankees if they lose 4-0 or 4-1, or even 4-2 (they'd complain about Shilling's injury as another indicator of the curse), but it doesn't have the same spirit-crushing impact of the play-off loss in 1978 or Game Six in '86 or last year's Game Seven loss, so it doesn't join the lore of the curse (does anyone really remember the Sox lopsided ALCS losses in 1988, 1990 or 1999?), other than it would add another year to the post-1918 drought.

Now, OTOH, that the Sox have become the first team to ever rally from down 3-0 to force a Game Seven, now that the series is knotted up 3-3 and Sox fans are wrapped up in what would be the greatest post-season comeback in baseball history, now that Sox fans are on the cusp of delivering what would be a historic collapse onto the hated Yankees, is the time to lower the boom on Sox fans.

My prediction was that Boston would tie it at 3-3, only to lose Game Seven. I hope I'm wrong--but these are the Yankees, and these are the Red Sox.

i dont think Boston has found their niche in baseball history because theres 2 teams with longer futility streaks.

If someone here is truly a Red Sox fan [not just rooting for them] and doesnt want their team to win the world series speak up now.

Winning the world series is the ultimate goal in baseball for fans and players,i cant honestly see someone saying if we win it we lose our identity.All you lose is the fans who only want to see the team win to end the streak.Its not like they arent going to sell out every game next year if they win this year.

If you knew someone who wanted to get married more than anything in the world,and he had some girlfriends who didnt work out,some felt like they might be ones to marry but then after awhile they just didnt work out,and then every 6-7 years or so he found a girl that was perfect and he set up asking her to marry him in front of everyone in his family and everyone thought she was going to say yes and then at the last second she says no,aww so close.....do you really think his family and friends would say 'its better it didnt work out,if he got married who would we feel sorry for all the time' hes found his niche at being turned down,he likes being known as the guy no one would marry

When the Red Sox got crushed in the 3rd game I told my wife "It isn't this easy, they aren't going to let us off this easy" There is no heart wrenching in a sweep, it is a quick bullet to the head. Remember those sweeps Oakland handed the Sox in 88 and 90? Not really. The Red Sox were going to make us sleep less and draw us back in to make us believe. Yes there are a couple teams from Chicago that have longer losing streaks, but until recently those teams were out of it by July, so their fans could enjoy beer and sunshine in games that didn't matter. The Sox keep us hanging on.

Yes the fans want to win the Series, but it will be interesting to see how we act. I hope to live long enough to see it!

Scott usually id just play off your futile attempts at humor but saying i want to get married is the furthest thing from the truth. I love my cards too much to risk half of them.I started getting a nervous twitch on last thanksgiving when my cousins girlfriend was in my room where i keep the cards.I almost didnt let her in the room.This year will be different,my rottweilers been trained well enough to not let any girls near the room...If i meet the right girl some day i might show her my 'dads' cards,which they will be referred to,up until the day after the divorce settlement.
