Default Unknown Ruth Postcard

Posted By: Greg Martin

Hi,

I am wondering if anyone has knowledge of this Ruth postcard. It is the same image as FKW's 1 of 1 Cuban issue but the title is different and the reverse is a postcard back.

The postcard manufacturer is The Payne Printing Company, New Haven, Michigan. The only postcard examples I've found bearing the company's name are from the early 1900s, but I have not located the company's beginning and end dates.

While searching google for postcard information, I e-mailed one of the sites, along with front and back scans and received this information in reply:

This sort of small press postcard was manufactured in the 1920's to 1930's. In the photo he looks to be about 35. That would make the year 1930 since he was born in 1895. It would have to be before 1935 since he retired then. I have no specific detail about this card. Just an estimate.

It measures 3 7/16 X 5 5/16

Thanks,
Greg

Neat post card. The TYPE on the front 'BABE RUTH' looks very strange. Almost as if it were added after the fact.

Yes Marty, I agree. I'm assuming the response about "small press" indicated cheaply made. The card is quite thick as well, just below 1/10mm.

Thanks,
Greg
