Default I Have One Complaint About This Message Board

Posted By: Dan Bretta

I hate to scroll from left to right to read a thread because someone posted a long URL or did not use space breaks in a very long string of letter/characters et cetera.

The most common offense is to post an ebay URL which is too long for this message board. Here is a handy little site that everyone here should have bookmarked.

www.tinyurl.com

All you have to do is copy and paste the URL into the tinyurl site and it changes it into a short URL that you can post here.

I know I sound like I'm whining, but this is far more annoying to me than mispelled words or hijacked threads.

Please use it.

I agree with Dan and I hate to have to scroll left to right.

Another similar problem although you don't see it as often is a few posters like to give themselves long login names, and by doing so condense the width of the screen. But that is less frequently seen than the too wide one.

The giant scan is what causes the screen to get too wide.

Dan, I've brought this up before with no effect. Hope you have better luck. For this, ranks right up there with thread hijacking

I love pinatas. You get to beat the crap of something and get rewarded with candy.

I have been trying to figure out how to make scans smaller, to no avail. How do you do it? (I normally load mine thru photobucket.)

Ken

There is a post a few spots down about image resizing programs with links. They are very easy to use and a great benefit.

and actually log on to Photobucket....not just through N54, you can just select a photo and then resize it within photobucket. Works great. You select 25% or 50% or more I think, click on the link and it resizes. It's PERMANENTLY that size then though........

...that "appear" on this message board are at the mercy of the end user's (that's you) monitor resolution. A scan that is accurate on a higher resolution monitor that is set at 1024x768 or 1280x1024 -- which is the norm the last several years -- will appear larger on a monitor at 800x600 pixels, such as mine. Conversely, my accurate scans will look too small of those using a higher resolution monitor. It's just something I accept. There's no one size fits all, unfortunately. The only work around I can think of with the scrolling across is to stack scans vertically on the thread's page, rather than across the page side by side.

*edited for dangling participles.

Learn how to resize scans if you don't know how.....On most pc's you can right click on the image, open with "paint", click on "image" at the top, then go to the second option on the pull down menu which is stretch/skew....make both numbers the same (smaller to make smaller) and save....toy around with it a bit and it's very easy. Even I can do it!! Also when posting pics you should always hit the preview button first to see what your scan/post is going to look like before you do it. Lastly you can email me and I will help you...I don't use photobucket so don't know anything about it. I use Net54 temporary files space and upload them from there. Scans can only be 128k using this option...regards
