Mighty fine price for this 4. I picked up a raw 3-4 last year for $600. doesn't look much different than this one. My goodness, I would hate to have started my collection this year. I think on my budget, it would have turned me off by now. Glad I met you fine folks 1 year ago, and wish I would have met ya'll 10 years ago.

Last year I paid $2100 for a very nice raw example that I thought had a great shot at PSA 5. It came back PSA 4 and I was mildly disappointed.

all i can say is WOW! I'd figure that card to be a $2500 card...WOW!!!!

I got all 4 t206 cobbs in the lipset auction not even 1 year ago for $2700...and my green cobb is nicer!!! WOW!!!

...make me happy that I finished my T206 set last year, and that I picked up most of the HOFers in VG 3 and higher already.

Within about the last year (or two), I picked up PSA 4 Cobb Bat on and Cobb Bat off each for under $1,000. I also picked up a very nice SGC 40 Cobb Green for $1,250. There is no way I would be able to afford (or even want to pay this much for) these anymore.

Whoever buys that Cobb will probably crack it open and re submit it. probably getting a higher grade !

Brett- Let's just hope they DON'T crack it open and send it to SGC, it will likely come back a 2. The reason I say that is the chipping in the border upper right. SGC is brutal on chipping and I've seen many cards which look like 4s or 5s come back as 2s because of chipping.

I think there is pretty clearly at least a wrinkle on the right border that (and it is hard to see in the scan) move across the card to Cobb's right eye, which shows some chipping the eye brow.

Scans of cards with spider wrinkles often look like 5's and higher. The reason we have 3rd party grading is so that we can get a little more information than a good scan will tell us.

My wow is also because a PSA 5 just sold last week for $1900. Now a 4 will go for over $4000? Me thinkith something goofy going on. Don't tell me buy the card not the holder at 2x more and 1 grade lower????

has a qualifier, psa5mc...thus technically making the weighted registry grade equivalent to a psa3. this 4 looks alot sharper than its technical grade so i'm not surprised. of course it's a 4 for a reason and there might be a light wrinkle somewhere. the last sgc40 went for $2551 just for reference.

I think 3 Finger would fit nicely in about any collection. The back is fine by the way.

Hi Quan- I think your thinking of another card. I did purchase a Bvg-4 Green Cobbie within the last year and sent that one off to Gai. It came back a Gai-4.5 and just sold that one in Lew Lipsets latetst auction.
You can still go in to Lew's website and check that one out. This one was purchased as is, in the Psa holder about 8 months ago.
This one's Cenetered much better than the other one that was crossed from a Beckett holder to the Gai holder that I beleive your thinking of.

I thought my Cobb would grade at least a 5 (or perhaps a 6). Corners are nice,
color is more vivid than most and back is a very clean Piedmont 150.
However, it is O/C and that has to be factored into its grade. Anyhow, I had
GAI "preview" this card....anyone want to guess what Grade they gave it ?

You are a generous "grader".....I wish you were the one to preview it.

Anyhow, GAI's preview graded it a "4.0". I asked them why so ? And, they
explained that due to the O/C, they couldn't give it a higher grade.

So, I paid them the $5.- and thanked them. At the May Philly Show I will
submit this card to SGC to be graded. I am hoping it will receive an "Ex"
(with a qualifier). There are really no flaws on it. BTW, GAI does not do
"qualifiers".

If so, I will sell it because it is too nice for my 1st Series run of Piedmont 150
cards. Incidently, I need only Bell, Bergen, Bradley, Durham, Sweeney, White,
and Wilson to complete this series of 154 cards, Can any of you guys help ?

Thanx for the correction, I must of mis-read the Bill Heitman's checklist.
And, I should have compared it with yours. But, tell me wasn't Bill Sweeney
(Boston) sometime ago considered to be in the 150 Series ?

In any event, thanx to you.....I am now down to 5 cards.

This is my 3rd set of T206 cards that I'm putting together. But,this set will be
entirely with ONLY Piedmont backs. I have nearly completed the 460-only Series
of 48 cards in Piedmont.
And, I have most of the 48 - Southern Leaguers in Piedmont 350.

And, a good number of Minor Lgrs are Piedmont 350 backs, I'm approaching
3/4 of the way to an all-Piedmont set. Most of my HOFers in the 350 Series
are P350; however, I still need a good number of players in this Series.

Just an fyi - SGC does not do qualifiers either. Only PSA will give it a grade with an (OC) qualifier.

Thanx, for the info....as you can guess, I am not to "up" on the Grading card
business. Actually, I do not care for it; but, I have to go-with-the-flow if I
want to sell my better cards. I have been using GAI since their set-up is very
close to my booth at the Philly Show and they do "previews".

All the cards in my vast collection are ungraded and that is just fine with me.

Hi Ted,
I think Sweeney (Boston) has always been considered a 350-only card. It's tough to keep track of these things. I have a mental block on a few subjects (for example, I keep thinking Dode Criss is a 350-only subject when in fact he is 150/350). Anyway, your goal of completing a set of Piedmont 150s is laudable and I am excited for you to inform us of its completion! Have you thought about expanding your goal to a complete set of ALL Piedmont backs? The 350s and 460 Factory 25s should be very doable, although the 460 Factory 42s would take some work.

I think I said this is my "mission" and that I am 3/4 on the way (393 cards).
I am finding it more of a challenge acquiring the Major Leaguers in the 350
Series. I did not expect to run into this dilemna, as I thought these would be
more available. But, of course there are more cards in this Series as compared
to the 150 or the 460 Series.

Now, if you are asking, am I going to try to acquire in this process some of the
more "exotic" Piedmont backs (i.e., P460/42, etc.) ? No, I do not think so.

Also, I am wondering if anyone else ever tried doing this; or, am I setting a
precedent ?

Seems like there are a lot of Green Cobbs around these days--are they really as tough or rare as everyone says? The REA catalog is chock full of them (and several have appeared on eBay lately, comparable in number to the Batting poses I'd say), and when I acquired mine at a National three years ago, the seller had a bunch of them. Are they just popping out of the woodwork now because they fetch such high prices--i.e., is this unusual activity on this particularly card?
It is the best of the four Cobb cards (IMO), but is it really that tough (I only have occasional access to the SGC pop report)?

I just think there are a lot around at the moment. But the green is significantly tougher than the other three T206 Cobbs. My unscientific guess would be that there are twice as many of any of the the other three Cobbs as there are green portraits.

If you are implying that I am "nuts" for trying this with the T206 set, then
you are not the only one. Initially, I had the same thought of myself.

But, back in December I had "completed" my 2nd T206 set (520 cards). So,
I asked myself "is that all there is ?" (Peggy Lee....1950's). I took a closer
look at the cards and noticed that 25% of them were Piedmont backs. So,
I broke up this set and started all over. First, by trading with a friend (who
has a complete set and didn't care about the backs) my "whatever" backs for
his Piedmont backs.
And, before I knew it I had over 1/2 the set with Piedmont backs. But, this
process wasn't just random for I wanted to collect the 3 different Series in
the order they were produced (based on The Monster and conversations with
Scot Reader). An additional 25% I have purchased. So, that leaves 25% still
to acquire for a 520 card (99.4 % complete set).

So, call me "nuts", or whatever....I am having a lot of fun with this challenge.
