If they want new consignors they have to make sure all the old consignors come out whole.

If consignors are out there who have yet to be paid, name them. I believe everyone was paid, late by a month but paid. If anyone has a name or wants to speak up, please do. I was one of the consignors and I was paid. It seems like this would be the place for an unpaid consignor to rant and rave and I've yet to see it...rumors and more rumors at this point.

Matt-I read the thread. I read the "I know of others" claim. Im just saying, name them. Have them come on here and tell the stories, if they have a story. Having a lot of unpaid consignors when none of them are posting on here regarding it...doesn't seem plausible. All holy hell breaks loose on here regualrly when something as small as an overgraded card is sold, a misdated title in an auction listing. That's the great thing of this board, nothing is going to sneak by. If there are a lot of consignors who have yet to be paid, where are they? Why aren't they posting here? That's what I am asking.

"I know a number of consignors to past Mastro auctions who are owed considerable money for months now. They are getting no answer on the phone when trying to contact Mastro. Doesn't look confidence inspiring. "

I know of two that haven't been paid in full.

they figure posting on a chat board may not increase their chances of getting paid. If I was an unpaid consignor I wouldn't post about it until after I got paid.

Its strange to me because when the rumors started, I had not been paid (was not late at that point). the first thing I did was pick up the phone and call everyone I knew who regularly consigned. I know of 8-10 in total. We all panicked for a couple of weeks. In the end, the panic was for nothing. I was paid, so was everyone else I knew. Two were 6 figure consignors, both were paid. I just haven't seen anything except for rumors.

I have not been paid in full from the December auction, and my calls, fax, and letter to Doug Allen have gone unanswered since I received a partial payment on or about February 16th.
I know of at least one other person that has not been paid either from that auction.

We, who called the GREAT DEPRESSION of 09 back in March of 2008;
who accurately predicted the collapse of the stock market,
and raised the possibility that a handful of major auction houses
would go under predict that at least two other important
baseball auction firms will close their doors before year's end.

Consignors beware And remember

TRUST NO ONE DOUBLE CHECK EVERYONE!

We are still in the early innings of what is sure to be the worst economic
disaster since the mid 19th century.

CASH is king

Mastro's situation has everything to do with bad and/or corrupt business practices and nothing to do with the economy. They'd been on borrowed time since the FBI named them as a target of a criminal investigation.

Honestly, get it through your heads that no one is going to panic-sell you their cards over your Chicken Little routine, no matter how many times you inject that non-sequitur into the conversation.

Boxing Card Man

Once again you are punch drunk and DEAD Wrong

We don't share our commentary to encourage Board Members to sell us their cards.

In fact, very few of the cards that we are offered meet our ultra high standards.

However, that said since January 2009, we have acquired 12 different type
card examples from BST and our other advertising. In each and every case the price
we paid was at least 20% below the most recent price on VCP. That can only be explained
by a drop in price in the baseball card market.

No, there are other explanations for it.

off the top of my head :

- the previous price was too high
- the previous example was far nicer for the same grade
- the person needed to sell immediately
- you lowballed 120 offers, 10% took the deal and 90% told you where you could go

Our favorite example of a physics experiment gone wrong is once again
incorrect in stating that we were bragging about paying low ball prices.

We paid market prices (as we always do). We simply observed that the market
has gone south.

Our most recent acquisition was offered to us six months ago after the seller
won it on E Bay. We were the under-bidder. The card sold for $350 and the seller
offered it to us for $750. We went back and forth for months- finally, he put the
card back on E Bay and we were the high bidder at $260.00

The simple fact is, regardless of who wants to acknowledge reality, that the baseball
card market (with a few notable exceptions) has dropped precipitously during the
past six months.

One of kind items such as a Cracker Jack Poster or beautiful rare 19th baseball advertising
piece will continue to attract wealthy collectors...but the market for low grade, mid grade and
most high grade cards is off. End of story.

Dan

We concur that in a number of examples the previous price was too high
and in a few cases the seller had tried for months to sell at a level that was
no longer realistic.

As for the 10% success rate- our actual success rate on items we are offered
and interested in is well in excess of 75%. There are not that many items
we like which meet our condition standard.

In fact, 75% of the items that we are offered, we pass on without every inquiring
about price.

As for the question of condition, in six of the twelve cases we acquired the exact
card that had been sold previously.

We hope that our response addresses your concerns

Thanks for your comments.

But Bruce... I thought you guys don't buy "low grade, mid grade and high grade cards."

Has (GASP!) the ultra high grade market collapsed?

In fact, we don't buy low and mid-grade cards
but we closely track the performance of said cards
on VCP

You can't have it both ways, Bruce. If your buy prices (and you only buy "ultra high grade") are down 20%, then either

a) the ultra high grade market is down, or

b) you're lowballin'.

(Tertium non datur: "there is no third (possibility)".)

Bruce - are you counting this as one of the auction house closings you predicted? I don't think it counts because it didn't go out of business - just got renamed.

I wish these guys could come up with better names - in the last month we've been introduced to 2 new houses:

This may be the first time in the history of American commerce that a principal in a new venture is refusing publicity. Then again, I suppose you can't blame him for not talking to that evil hater O'Keeffe.

What I hate about all of this is that there is apparently an "inner circle" of people who are able to get quicker shipping (from the Feb auction), returned phone calls, and returned emails. I can't get any of these. Legendary can remove me from their mailing list and save a few bucks on shipping catalogs.

Well, I do have a secret bat phone to the bat cave so let me try to help and make a friendly offer.

If anyone is having an issue getting an answer from Mastro about a consignment check, their winnings (they are still shipping from their last auction), a call back, or anything else, please send me an email and I will help get you answers. No, this shouldn't HAVE to be done but in the name of helping hobby friends, on both sides of the equation, I will help. I don't need specifics, if they are confidential, but just shoot me the email with a good daytime phone number/email, and I will get you answers. It's just that easy. Thanks much...

Lichtman.....the Brooklyn bridge is indeed one of the highlights in Mastro's....ooopppssss.....i mean.......corrupt-schill-inc.....oooppssssss....i mean legendaryauctions. The opening bid will begin once the police get this group of folks standing on one of the ledges.....who are these people anyway.....hmmmmmmm.......i have to get a close up.......zooms in..........oh jeeeezzzz....shoulda guessed that one........i will not mention names because i'm hoping the bridge will meet reserve.

George HC......At least Bruce will share his thoughts on topics in an open forum unlike some folks on here that truly do have multiple personalities and pretend to be such outstanding sincere folks then e-mail folks privately with their true thoughts......ummmmmmm...i heard there is a sale on Haldol and Zyprexa this weekend so good luck.

...I have a quick internet URP thingee question:

Here's the new (under construction) website:

http://legendaryauctions.com/

Here's the old website:

http://www.mastroauctions.com/index.cfm?Action=DisplayContent&ContentName=Home%2 0Page

I preserve some weblinks to old Mastro auctions on my website. Is there a way to copy the webpage apart from the website and keep it even after Mastro's old website is (inevitably, right?) taken offline?
