Default m101-2 sporting news question

Is it safe to say that most of these have been trimmed at some point? It sure seems like there was originally a border around this Mathewson print. But many have sold at auction with no mention of trimming. And it doesn't seem to affect the price at all. If I'm buying one should I just focus on the quality of the print in terms of creases, etc. and not worry about a border? Thanks.

I'm not sure your question relates just to the Matty or to all m101-2 supplements, but in my somewhat limited experience they are not routinely trimmed. I assume you do not consider that top stripe on Matty to be a border--this was how the first ten supplements were printed (and they are a little narrower than the rest). Of those, the only two that should have borders are Cobb and Magee. IMO, what you're seeing in those other Matty's is something akin to being off-center, or perhaps slightly miscut.

Default Todd is correct

the first ten were in this design with the top caption right at the top border. Not trimmed.

I agree, those are "miscut" for lack of a better term.

The people who get paid for their opinion seemingly have no clue (what a surprise) when it comes to "trimming" on these issues.

Doug

PS - apologies for the poorly combined scans on the Pittsburgh team supplement

Scott, you can't go wrong with any Matty Supplement. Doug, love the Pirates team picture with a young well dressed Wagner in it. I bought the same one you have from Jon Stats on eBay a couple of years ago. These have been getting harder and harder to find. Here are a couple different ones. The 1890 PL Supplement is really cool as it has all the great players up to that year on it.

Hi Scott, here is a good reference for how the Supplements look untrimmed. Its a neat set and 90% of them are quite inexpensive.

BTW I agree with Todd/Tim/Doug
