1944 Warner Bros publicity card of Lauren Bacall:

"You know how to whistle, don't you, Steve? You just put your lips together and blow."

The matching Bogie:

1968 Opel Kadette advertising giant PC. The chimp looks like he's trying to lay down a brick on the roof:

I think the appeal of this card is self-explanatory:

But just in case:

Perspective got a little hazy when the photo of Jim Bagby on the front of this 1925 Zeenut was artistically rendered on the back.

And rather appropriate for this thread, the artist also utilized his artistic license to give Jim a big old grin.

The Iron Horse is my sidekick when I work from the house. Ruth is his sidekick on the other side of the wall. Joe D, Lazzeri and Dickey also in the lineup on the wall.

Love the guys being there when I take a break!
Thanks,

Today's burst of happiness brought to you by the makers of W503 Jake Daubert cards and the United Manufacturers of red and blue felt tip markers (a subsidiary of Scotch brand cellophane tape).

My first graded Willie Mays, acquired in November, certainly makes me happy.

Actually, the Mays was acquired end of 2022.

That was a bad edit. I was going to post my first Jackie Robinson, which I picked up in November.

Both make me happy, so what the hell.

It’s a really nice three.

It's fun going back through this thread and revisiting all the wonderful cards shown. The diversity is amazing.

Here's a Gehrig to share today. Definitley makes me happy.

- 1983 Topps Sandberg ... #1 favorite card from the 1980's. 83' was the start of my love for collecting **

- 1989 Fleer Ripken FF ... opened countless packs in 89' hoping to find one. All were black box. Didn't obtain one until many years later. **

- 2015 Topps Will Ferrell ... not the best looking of his 10 archive cards, but I can't ask for anything more out of life than Ferrell on the Cubbies. Hope one day to pick up a signed one.

** (not my actual cards, can't get pics this moment)

This Pacific Coast Biscuit Ossie Vitt card was shown in the recent D311 thread, but he nudged me and said that folks might smile, just like his owner, at the hand manipulated borders over here in this neck of the Net54 woods.

Yes, smile accomplished.
Almost as much as the Melchoir "Runs like a Sissy" card; that's my fave.

Brian, the hand-manipulated borders may have been intentionally done this way so as to be in sync with the slant of Mr. Vitt's head.

Thanks Ben and Val, and now that I look at it, Vitt does appear to be reacting to the upper right border encroachment.

Someone was forward thinking when they laminated this 1948 Bowman of Ralph Kiner for MY protection.

Nice Ben, you were finally able to double down on your Weed purchases.

Perhaps the inverse corners are the result of a Hickey rampage gone awry.

Hey Brian,

I love it when a B&W issue has a touch of color added. Here is my W572 with some well placed red added.

The 1914 Cracker Jack card of Jeff Tesreau makes me happy because its missing chunks are well placed.

That, and it is a great batting pose for a pitcher.

This T206 Bill Shipke has his name on top and bottom...

t206shipkesmipkeSC150f30 001.jpg

but it is not the front that makes me smile, but instead the assumption a previous owner wrote on the back on what Bill's last name would likely be:

This Gibson Art postcard of this early basketball lass with the disjointed right shoulder and tiny narrow feet deserves to be featured on this thread as well.
