Thanks Clayton for the help. I still haven't been able to find any info. The teams and the names don't match up. The year was 1951, pitcher was J.W. Bryce pitching for Johnstons. Unless there are more pony leagues(or was) out there.

Thanks Richard! I really hope to add a Gandil soon. I couldn't pass up this higher graded one though, especially since its Tim Jordan. I'm a big fan of his cards.

Default My First Hindu

Added my first Hindu to the PC, thanks KC. When I first started collecting T's a couple years ago I could give a damn about backs, now things have changed. Hard not to appreciate a different back when you are so used to seeing Sweet Caps, Piedmonts, et al.

Default thanks for the scrapbook shot

Interesting but a little puzzling that the author/scrapbooker mistakes Joe Jackson for Home Run Baker. I assumed he would have trimmed the card himself and known that the caption was JoeJax.

My guess is that the kid collected the cards from several sources prior to putting the book together. I would say that the cards were trimmed in different ways by the different collectors not necessarily the scrapbooker. He would have been forced to "guess" at the names of some of the trimmed players.

The Nicholls card is listed as Oldring...btw, what is written on his cap? It should be plain white, correct?

Default Ernie Lombardi

Hello, i am a NEWB

I just recently bought a Ernie Lombardi on Ebay, 1934 Goudy, http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...K%3AMEWNX%3AIT

The card came from an auction held by SPC AUCTIONs. A friend, who recommended me to this site, had suggested I be very careful of counterfeit pre-war cards, so here I am. I have no idea if this is real or not, I should have the card by the weekend, what do i need to look for? I know on rookie cards like Rod Carew, Pete Rose, etc. that the fakes are 2 good and that gives them away but what do you look for on pre-war cards?

This maybe the wrong forum to post this so if there is a different thread out there I would appreciate the link.

I am collecting all the Hall of Fame catchers sigs if possible and when not I am going after original cards and then finally modern jersey/bat cards of the player. I need Roger Bresnahan, Bucke Ewing, Gabby Hartnett, and Ray Schalk to complete this project.

Mike

NEWB, I think you have reason to be concerned. Border and back look too white to be authentic. Of course, without seeing it in person no way to be sure.

This just came in the mail, courtesy of Bill Cornell. He was going to keep all the PCs in this lot from REA but generously agreed to sell me this one for my Milan collection.

Thanks, Bill!

Mike. Don't worry about it. That's the benefit of buying from auctions like scp is that they do not throw random fake cards in their.lots. just avoid coachs corner and you'll be fine.

Yes, actually, they do. Jane Mathewson and Blanche McGraw signed a ton of stuff for collectors eager for traces of their husbands' legacies. They often attended HOF weekends with Mrs. Ruth and Mrs. Gehrig, signing loads of things. They're not particularly tough signatures to find.

But, rest assured, these came from the Jeff Morey collection, and he confirmed how he received these nearly half a century ago by mail.

Just came in the mail today courtesy of Steve (Ladder7). Throwing together the T206 Red Sox team which isn't too hard since there is a very small number of their cards in the set.

Thanks Steve for the great service!

Just back from SGC .. two purchased from N54 partners.

My first W600 purchases (from REA Auction), a little rough but they'll have to do for now.
