Does anyone have complete, or even incomplete results of the Topps/Guernsey auction in 1989.

Wasn't that the one where Topps opened up their vaults and sold all of the proof cards?

Rich, they have what looks like 4 copies still available, but it will set you back $75.

Wouldn't the results be too outdated for any kind of usage in the Beckett Guide?

It'd be kind of cool

I know it won't affect today's prices, but it's kind of neat to know what came before

I have a tearsheet from SCD on 9/15/89. It mentions the following prices realized for original 53 Topps paintings (unsure if this includes 10% buyer's commission)and is not as precise as one would hope:

Mantle $121K
Mays $88K
J. Robinson $71K
Ford $35.2K
Feller $33K
Campanella $16.5K

The rest of the prices are mostly football-I can post them if you want them. I may have the final prices realized sheet around here somewhere. I'll have to hunt for it but am not 100% I have it.

Dave

Either posting -- or sending them to RKlein@beckett.com would be great. If you need to make a copy and postal mail them to me let me know and I'll give you an address

Rich

I have had no luck finding the prices realized. I checked my Topps auction catalog thinking I threw the results in there but I did not. I'll try to dig more this weekend as I have a large stack of tearsheets and papers to go thru in this search (gotta update my vertical files and index on of these days). I do know it is not anything issued by the auction house since I did not bid and was likely an article somehere, possibly SCD but possibly not. Have you tried contacting Guernsey's?

Anyway, will post after I search some more.

OK, I have not been able to find the auction results. I'll be reorganizing my basement and finally installing a proper office upstairs over the spring so a lot of stuff i have buried down here may come to light. If I do find it, I will post accordingly but it's likely to be a while.
