Default Need Help with an Ebay Scammer

Posted By: Jamie

I recently purchased a 1951 bowman rookie despite the recent neg feedback the seller had. Should have listened to my gut as it has been about 10 days since I paid and I have no card and seller has stopped communication.. he is local Indianapolis, Indiana. I have his actual address and name, but have never run into this situation before. Anyone have any suggestions?

Here is the link to the ebay auction I won

Tons of red flags with that seller, he is obviously a kid who will be going to jail soon by the look of some of the scam auctions he's listed.

I wouldnt have bid $20 on that card with that scan that doesnt match his other auctions.

Start now to try to get a refund. Good luck

Jamie-
I could be wrong, but the cards in the auction look like cards that were offered on a Craig's List scam a few months ago that was discussed in several threads on this board. It seems like the scammer had these same cards, and either folks did not receive them after payment, or they received fake cards in doctored PSA slabs. I could be wrong though, and for your sake, I hope I am. Good luck in your dealings with this ebayer, and I sincerely hope you either get your money back, or the card (if it is real)!

All you have to do is call your local police station and they will put you in touch with the online crime unit which handles internet fraud. Once you do that he will be nabbed.

1- Start now. As bad as it is, it only gets worse with the passage of time.

2- If you actually know a police officer where you live, contact him AND try to contact law enforcement where the seller is. Those guys can contact the officer you know, so the police in Indiana will know you're legit. Use Mapquest to figure out where the guy is, and where the nearest police are. You can Google that department's contact information. I doubt if many departments have an 'online crime unit', maybe in big cities, but a bunch of America lives in small towns.

3- Contact Paypal, and your credit card if you used one. Get payment undone. If you get your money back, then leave the matter alone. You can't make him sell you the card.

4- You need to have attempted to resolve this with the seller. So a couple of emails, a phone call (you can get his information through eBay), and a letter would be in order. Keep a copy of all emails and any letters. Try this, don't necessarily expect it to work. And once you've tried it, leave it and focus on #2 above. To continue to pound away with emails will only frustrate you, and might clue the guy in on your strategies.

5- This situation isn't totally bad, if you learn from it. If you don't learn a lesson here, then it is way worse than it looks.

Ebay scammers only can exist with the help of foolish ebay buyers.
Why on earth would you bid on something from this guy after looking at his feedback? IT WAS TOTALLY OBVIOUS TO ANYONE, THAT HE IS A SCAMMER.

You started a thread about this card on the 12th after you bought it on the 11th. Did you send payment before starting the thread or did you still send payment after the responses you got? It's unfortunate that it now doesn't look good for you, but to most people this was obviously something to stay away from to begin with. If you ever have any doubt you should always ask questions before you send money.

IMO, Richard's being a little hard on ya Jamie! We all make mistakes, and although it sometimes takes making our own mistakes to learn from, I dont blame you for giving someone the benefit of the doubt, even though people talk badly about them. Heck, if everyone was that critical of "errors in judgement", Mr. Cobb would never have made it into the HOF! Basically, I just want to say we all have our lessons to learn, and this one may just end up costing a little more than others! Hope you get it straightened out, and watch out for Negative feedback from now on!!

Brandon
