Default Buyer Beware - Ebay: Guy_6629 / PJ Geyman

Because so many of you like to block people on ebay, and you like a juicy story....

I bought an item on Facebook from ebay seller Guy_6629, or PJ Geyman when buying from him on Facebook. I got a partial reference from Bumpus Jones who hadn't bought or sold from him but heard he was okay to deal with. He has a lot of memorabilia on ebay. Item was a supposed GU Barry Larkin bat.

Mistake 1) I didn't do due diligence and ask to read the MEARS report. Mistake 2) I paid $700 PPFF + trade (2001 Grif Auto Relic... supposed $200 trade value).... BTW, we don't need to explain how stupid it is to pay PPFF, I already know...

Item arrived, I read the report, and it clearly says the item is not GU. It is graded A5. I went to their website and it fully explains A5 is not GU. I sat on the item for 7 days considering what I wanted to do. I contact BNorth and Perezfan and Bumpus Jones asking for their opinions. They all said return the item; value is about $250 - $500.

I brought this up to the seller and brought up a refund. He was not happy and told me that I should just resell it. I forced a refund on him by sending it back; he told me that he would turn around and ship the item straight back to me. By contacting the Facebook admins, they helped convince him that he needed to make a refund.

He tells me he already flipped the card for $150, so he's only going to refund me $850. He refunded me today, but instead of refunding me PPFF, like I paid, he sends the money PPG&S, so it now looks like I made a sale. He spent $880 to send me $850. Now I'm going to also get taxed next year on a refund. But now I'm worried he will initiate a refund and get the money back along with the item.

Anyway, item is back up on ebay today, and on Facebook, and the MEARS report page stating the item is not GU is not pictured, so he's using deception to sell his items. It's not worth your time and effort to deal with him.

Send him a single common card with tracking, so if he does try to initiate a refund, you have a tracking number to use as evidence. Not foolproof but it beats doing nothing and hoping for the best.

Jim I wouldnt do that.. The slip will have the weight on it. a card usually comes up 1-2 ounces. He could argue that the item returned wasnt what was sent....

The other trader didn't do a return refund, he sent a payment as G&S, so OP could say it was a separate transaction.

The other trader simply could have refunded the original payment but he chose to pay extra for G&S when the item was already returned. Something isn't right.

^^That seems like a horrible thing to do.^^ Why would you stoop to their level?

Seller probably sent G&S so they had the extra tax write off.

Tim did contact me about this bat. I just gave him my opinion on what the bat actually is/isn't. I also gave my opinion on the quality of a Mears Letter of Opinion. My opinion for those wondering is it is like Charmin but a little rougher and not worth as much.

Its not stooping. Its protection if the other trader did something dishonest by filing a claim saying they bought something that was never shipped. The OP stated he was worried about that happening, my suggestion gave him some protection against that.

What a creep. Sorry you are still having to deal with this Tim...

Regarding the part about the $850 refund going through PP Goods & Services, don't fret too much. Just be sure to document everything, and the IRS can't come after you for failing to report the "sale".

Two things - if you want to protect yourself by not sending the bat, send a box with the same weight of filler material...

Secondly and recommended if this was a FB transaction, call him out on the Scammers page where fellow hobbyists report fraud, scammers and bad business practices. This will out him and gently persuade him to possibly change his ways. Post up and saved communications with him and get some popcorn. Page is full of fun reads and many ugly scams...

How would turning Tim into a scammer help. At best wouldn't that be a complete waste of his money sending a FAKE box. Then the scammer could call Tim a scammer and be correct. I don't get all the weird advice the last couple days.
