Default 1955 Orioles Zip Cards?

Posted By: James Feagin

I came across some cards at a show last night which I am sure are uncatalogued. I have seen them on e-bay before, but would like your opinions? They are called "Zip" cards from the 1955 Orioles. They are little sepia square and feature each player on the team. Does this come from a company or regional issue, or are they home-made? The dealer was at a loss, but since I've seen them on e-bay before, maybe they had some distribution? Any help would be great.

James

Hi, here is the picture of one of the Zipcards (below). I dont know much about them myself, I have seen about 6-8 different, some with "54" and some with "55". Frank

Those are exactly the cards I saw. I can't for the life of me figure out what they are, where did you get those? They are still available to me for very cheap if I should so choose.

The Zip cards will NOT be in the 2006 Standard Catalog. While I have had bits and pieces of pictures and card numbers in my files for years, I have never had anything approaching a complete checklist for either type. My personal belief is that these are a collectors' issue that dates from sometime after the mid-1950s. If enough data becomes available, I would like to eventually list them.
