1903 - In the first game of franchise history, the New York Highlanders (later to be renamed Yankees) lose their opener at Washington, 3-1 with Jack Chesbro taking the loss.

A 1901 Pirates reunion ball (signed in 1925). Happy Jack's signature appears right below Wagner's.

Good to celebrate Happy Jack!

I am currently reading (I love inter-library loan!!) "Greatness in Waiting: An Illustrated History of the Early New York Yankees 1903-1919" and, of course, Chesbro was a key part of the pre-Dynasty.

Great book, too!

Shawn
