Default Share your Negro League player photographs

Let's see some of the Negro League photos (no cards) that are out there!

Rob M.

I'll start out with a few that I recently picked up:

Jimmy Shields - Bacharach Giants

Rogelio "Ice Cream" Linares - New York Cubans

Leonard Pearson & Ray Noble while playing in the Cuban League

Believe this to be the 1934 Cleveland Red Sox of the Negro National League

These are the only two I have in my collection. The first is a 1940s Henry Kimbro. I love the description of him pasted below.

"He was a little unruly. He didn't always get along with umpires. Some would even have described him as Negro baseball's "bad boy". Kimbro, described by Ted Radcliffe as "the wildest man I ever saw in baseball and, absolutely, the hardest to manage, himself managed the Baltimore Elite Giants briefly during the 1950s before retiring in his hometown of Nashville".

The second is from 1954 and is one of my favorite photos. It features Oscar Charleston, King Tut, and Connie Morgan who replaced Hank Aaron when he signed with the Braves.

That's a really cool photo of the Boulder team Barry. Have you ever had any luck with identifying anybody on that team?

Here's an old turn of the century Cuban X-Giant cabinet card I've had for a while. Still haven't had any luck identifying him though.

Here are a couple of recent pickups. On top an image of the Veracruz Eagles circa 1944-45 with a clear picture of Pedro Formental and possible Silvo Garcia
The bottom I am still tying to identify and any thoughts would be welcome

After several years of searching, I may have finally just figured out who this X-Giants player is. Id be interested what others think.

I'm always hesitant about trying to match up photos cuz of the photo matching fog your brain can go through, however, the X-Giants were only around a short time and this guy is a little unique looking.

I found this photo of the 1905 X-Giants and the guy standing 3rd from the right caught my eye.

Cuban_XGiants (1905).jpg

Then I found the following:

Cuban_XGiants 2.jpg

Looks to me like my guy is Rogelio Valdez (Valdes).

Default Pennant - Homestead Gray's

Very Cool Pennant. Doesn't fit into my collection so I might move it. (I have a homestead gray's photo with Jack Johnson visiting the team, doesnt fit as I thought).
