Default Authentic???

Hello,
I am trying to ascertain whether or not this old pin is authentic, and if so, if it started it's life as a football pin or as a baseball pin to which someone has attached a ribbon and old metal football. I found the pin in a box of old junk, and no one tried to push it off on me as authentic or otherwise. Thanks so much if you are able to help me!

The Brooklyn Dodgers were a national football team in the 30s or 40s. Then I think they were the Brooklyn tigers. So it was a football pin

FWIW - there are quite a few NY Giants pinbacks that you find offered as either baseball or football. You will see the same pin with a football or baseball "dangle." I think the same pins were sold for both teams. Most of the "overlap" pins are shown in the left column of this display case.
