Default Wheat

Thanks Jimmy, that Wheat photo was actually used on the shirts one year at the national several years ago. I enjoyed wearing that shirt as Wheat was born in my home town and is mainly who I collect.

GREAT Wheat picture, Kenny! I collected him for awhile since he was a fellow Missouri guy. Since then I've moved on to other areas of collecting but still regret selling my Wheat collection (all 5 cards LOL).

Thats a beautiful Carl Horner Portrait. This 1963 I.D.L. DRUG STORE WILLIE STARGELL is not in that league but fun nonetheless.

Here's a 1939 Lou Gehrig TYPE 1 photo that hit the daily double, as it was used for both a card and a magazine cover! Coincidentally, both the card & magazine were issued in 1948.

I bought this photo from the Christy Walsh Family several years ago, and only discovered that it was used for one of his candy cards a couple years back.

Ran across this while doing some Burke photo research and thought I would revive this thread as I suspect a few more connections have been made in the last 4 months.

Hand-tinted George Burke 8x10 used in production of the Bra-Mac photo/card. Note the application of the plastic Dymo label for the number, name and year (only the name remained on the original when it passed through my hands, but evidence of the other 2 labels previously being affixed is visible).

This is a great scroll through. I am very impressed with this aspect of collecting. I don't know if I could see a photo and quickly associate it with any card. So I impressed that people made some of the connections, especially tight crops or tilts.

Thought I would bring this one back to the front page. I found this 1936 Billy Herman photo shot in Catalina during spring training. I knew that I had come across this image before but could not narrow it down. I discovered today that the photo was used in two of the Wheaties series. It was first used in 1936 and then reversed and used once again the following year in the 1937 series.

Beautiful photos!

I own this 1915 type 1 photo: http://www.baberuthautographs.com/ph...-sox-team.html

Must have been taken within minutes of another photo that produced this image:
http://www.robertedwardauctions.com/...n/2012/14.html

What do people think the general photos should be worth value wise? Obviously the photos came before the cards and are much more rare.....

Keep me coming....any Mantle's out there? Great thread.

Default T222 Fatima Leach

Just noticed I have this one. It's interesting (to me) that they created the Fatima Leach photographic image directly from the negative, but modified the background. I once spent an afternoon in a friend's darkroom, watching him manipulate one of my black and white negatives to enhance various aspects, but never change the actual background like this.

I am bumping this nice thread because I had recently bought a photo of Cochrane that I thought was great early image. Couldn't get much earlier without going into his PCL days. I recently found that the image was used on a couple of cards. Both are not off the main path, but still cards using the image.

I had also bought this one recently (I do not own the card):

I recently picked up this 1928 Press Photo (International Neesreel), which matches the 1926-29 Exhibits and a few other Klein cards...

As an FYI, I'm always looking for more tint variations of Klein!!

Derek, nice pickup on the Klein photo. But, what I really, really like is your collection of Exhibit PCs - great eye candy!
Best,
Val
