Hi Scott
In your auction you guys have a Chris Chambliss game used hat. Do you know what year its from. It's from the 1970's right. Not from his days with the yankees in the 90's. I know nothing about hats. My dad's favorite player was chris chambliss and its hard to find any of his stuff from his yankee days(70's). Thanks

Great Collins photo!!

And were you guys able to confirm that cabinet photo pic actually has Charles Comiskey in it?

The hat is vintage and not a 1990's hat.

I am confident that the player is Comiskey. When I originally saw it in the scans that appeared in this forum, I was on the fence, but as soon as I saw it in person I felt confident that the Comiskey ID was correct. We just put up a close up of the player on the site

IMO that isn't a strong resemblence. Not enough to justify the expense anyway.

The illustration is from an 1894 Sporting Life (also in this auction) so it is 6 or 7 years later. I thought that the droopy eyes, ears that stick out, roman nose, chin, and small mouth, were dead ringers. The uniform is definitely browns and dates from the right period. I think that it would be quite a coincidence to have somebody with so many similar features on the same team.

Since he is not wearing a nametag, It is never going to be 100%, but for me it is close enough that I would buy it and I have pretty high standards.

Does anybody have a team photo from the era to compare it with?

added N172 for comparison

Scott- I don't mean to interfere with your auction, but since you are asking for opinions, I would say there is a lot less than a 100% chance that is Comiskey. I just pulled out several photos of him including an N172 Browns Champs portrait, and I don't see a resemblance. You might want to change the wording in the description a bit.

I've said it many times, and will say it again: photo identification is very tricky and very subjective.

I know that you would not try to tank an auction.

I compared it to his N28 and Scrapps and thought that it held up well.

Like I was saying, nothing is every 100%, but I think that the individual facial features hold up well. when holding the piece in your hand, I don't think that you even have to go through the process of trying to compare each individual body part, it is just an overall look.

Until I see somebody else on that team that bears a stronger resemblance, I am comfortable with the description.

Scott

I can definitely see a resemblance. Comiskey has that Lee Harvey Oswald look to him.

Hi Scott
I was just looking through your auction and the ending time changed from 3 days left to 6 days left. Did you guys change it or is it a error or something on my computer. Thanks

Yes, we moved the closing until next Wednesday.

The snowstorm came about 12 today so everybody left early and we will probably be closed tomorrow as there is about 10'' on the ground right now. Since we are going to lose a few days of answering questions, I decided to extend the auction a few more days so that we could get back to everybody that requested information. Plus it gives people more time to bid on that great T3 Cy Young!

An e-mail notification is going to go out soon.

Thanks for noticing!

Scott
