Recently there have been posts regarding B/S/T etiquette and ethics. Although I think that both should be held in high regard, I do not believe that heavy handed policing is indicated. Specifically, B/S/T participants should be given “the benefit of the doubt” in all dealings; and if one was to make an error in judgement, he should not be figuratively castrated for an initial “offense”.

This past week an incident occurred in which improved communication could have averted concerns. An excerpt of some of the uncertainties experienced by board members are shown below.

What are your thoughts in this regard?

I know I already ranted about seller "issues" on the main board, but this kind of situation is inexcusable. There is either a complete lack of integrity on the part of the seller here or else he is completely incompetent. Either way, decent Net 54 members need to be protected from this in the future.

I actually contacted Jay a few hours after his initial post asking him if he wanted to flip the card for a profit. He indicated that he hadn't heard back yet from the seller. To be at the FOUR DAY mark with no response is ridiculous. Did the seller get a better offer and then decide to sell it elsewhere? If so, that is extremely unethical and should not be tolerated. Is the seller completely incapable of responding in a timely matter? Unless he has had an extreme family emergency (that came up within 2 hours after the listing posted and still is requiring his attention) or is completely incapacitated or dead, then this kind of poor customer service has no place on this board IMO.

Leon -- Not that my opinion carries any wieght, but I think that this seller should be banned from posting on the B/S/T boards and a precedent set that such actions will not be tolerated from sellers in the future.

I just got an email from Pete. After analyzing his first post here, and the times it was edited, I do agree it took way too long to get back to the folks on this thread......I don't think it's a good practice to wait 5 days to respond to folks on the board, after you post something for sale. I don't think it's something I would ban someone for, especially if this is the only time I hear about this kind of issue, but would think it would not bode well with future buyers........Please keep me informed folks.... regards....

The BST is no different than anyplace else where good business ethics should prevail. I know Leon has discussed this in a previous post but maybe there could be a set of selling rules linked to the BST that all sellers have to abide by or they can no longer post there. Either Leon should set the rules or network54 buyers and sellers can pose suggestions.

The only problem I can see with setting formal rules is that it might leave Leon open to a lawsuit. With the "wild west", cavet emptor situation, no one can really be held response for anything. It's all dealings at your own risk and you need to do your homework if dealing with someone that you are not familiar with.

I believe that a seller should update a thread promptly. They had the time to put the item up for sale, it takes a lot less time to update the thread. I can understand an old listing that you forgot about, but this listing was new so it should still be on the seller's radar. I do give people the benefit of the doubt here more than I would on eBay, however I wouldn't want this to become somewhere where people troll for offers. (What would happen if Mike Wheat's program figured out how to automatically list everything on BST?!?!)

I have obtained some very nice cards from the BST thread and check it regularly. However if deals start falling through or there is a concern for improper dealings, I would avoid it.

What in fact happened with the card Jay was interested in I do not know. However the seller dealt with it very poorly; at best.

I'm not sure there is any situation that would leave Leon open to a lawsuit. Disputes have to be settled between the parties, not by the moderator. But a list of say half a dozen do's and don'ts when posting on BST would go a long way. If Leon tells someone he is not using professional standards and can no longer post it is not likely to end up in court.
