Playing against much older seasoned ballplayers was a 16 year old high schooler named Bob Feller. This was the tournament at which Feller was "found" by superscout Cy Slapnicka. He was signed shortly thereafter. The scorebook was the official scorers book kept by the Iowa Amateur Athletic Association's State Chairman Joe Campbell. Feller's team of farm boys ended up winning the tournament against many of the well sponsored city boys. Feller was probably 8 - 10 years younger than most of the participants.

In the tournament, Feller pitched 27 1/3 innings, had 49 strikeouts and gave up 14 hits, 10 walks, 4 runs (1 earned run). The only earned run was on a home run.

Very cool! I was talking to bob at an autograph signing a couple years back and he was telling me that he used to play on amateur teams with another Iowa sports hero, Nile Kinnick, i thought that was pretty amazing. Imagine a scorecard with both of those names on it!

What are the sizes of the pictures? I would like to get some similar stuff to frame and hang up. I know practically nothing about old photographs though.

They are all small snapshot type photos, I just haven't reduced them on my photobucket site because once you do that you can not enlarge them again and I like to make them full screen sized so I can see all the detail.

Has anyone seen this piece before? I think it's from the '50s and think it's rare (have never seen another...)

Just found this thread. Here are a couple of Feller items I've had since date of issue. All are in like-new condition.

Notice the newsstand pencil mark is still on both! The comic, even tho it says #10, is Issue #1 from 1951. I also have Issues 2 & 3. Not sure if there were any after that or not, but I don't believe so.

In hopes that they will retain their value, I have chosen NOT to have Bob sign them!! LOL!! (BUT--I DO have the obligatory Feller autographed ball & photo!!)

Greetings From Wisconsin, This is my 1st response/post after a long period of just visiting (Lurking) on both forums. Here are a few Bob Feller items that have not been shown yet. And yes the Dixie Lid Premium is trimmed. Dennis

Welcome to the board, Dennis. That's some really great stuff. I really like the more eclectic things that show up on the board.

Some autographs and a Bob Feller model glove. Also a cool vintage photo.

I wonder how fast a young Walter Johnson could have fired one in there?

How about Smokey Joe Wood?

This has been an interesting thread and you know a person could probably just focus only on Bob Feller items and that would keep them busy for years.

Yeah, I forgot about Smokey Joe. Some young fellow irked me recently by saying that Johnson and Wood couldn't throw faster than 90 mph and wouldn't make it in today's league. And that Babe Ruth couldn't handle today's fastball pitchers. Ruth ate fastballs for breakfast.

Cloth hat/cap that I'm guessing the owner of the car dealership had made in conjunction with "Bob Feller Day." I scanned the unautographed side (yes, I'm serious.)

Hello Andy

I haven't seen it yet from any of the previous posts, but I have seen a Wheaties advertisement (possibly from a box?) before.

As for myself, the only thing that I have to post is a picture of Mr.Feller & me. I worked as his assistant during an autograph session. We talked about baseball the whole time. It was an experience that I will never forget. Some of the stories he told me were amazing.

Hope I helped & Thanks for letting me share

Jantz
