Default Lefty O'Doul's first card........

Posted By: Phil Garry

It appears to be the general consensus of this borad that Lefty O'Doul is regarded as the third best MLB player (after Shoeless Joe & Pete Rose, of course) not currently in the BB HOF. Other than his numerous Zeenut PCL cards, what would be the earliest card issue for Lefty?

He has a Exhibit card 1926-29 some people don't consider these cards. The next one would be an R315 in 1928.

It shows him as a Giant. The Exhibit shows him with the Phillies, which means it was made after his trade. However, since he has a 1918, 1921, 1925, 1926 and 1927 Zeenut, the first MLB card is kind of an irrelevant debate.

Boxingcardman,

I posted my Seattle Popcorn O'Doul on the post-war site, in the food issues thread. I believe it is Lefty's last card as a manager. You're welcome to copy the picture and put it on your wonderful Lefty O'Doul webpage. I'd also be happy to send you a scan.

Paul

R315's are listed in the 2008 SCD as being from 1929-30, but if O'Doul is shown with NY NL it should be noted that the R315's also might have came out in 1928 (the 2003 SCD listed the R315's as 1928)

These 2 are also from 1929 but show him with Phil NL.

But like others said, the Zeenut cards are much earlier so its no big deal which card was his first in the Majors.

1929 R316
