I just picked up this item and I'm looking for a translation.

I punched it into a translator and this is what I got:


Flash! Flash! To the Habinistas: That given the impulse taken by glorious Almedares (7 gained games followed), we will only admit new supporters until day 30 of the present month, after whose date it will be completely impossible to accept anybody since Havana did not remain, nor cenisas. In order to make the transfer of club a thing is only demanded: To shout the Habana dies! Almenderes lives! The one that wins to us dies.

Habana and Almendares were two professional baseball clubs in Havana, and were referred to as the "Eternal Rivals". A "Habanista" is a supporter/fan of the Habana ball club and an "Almendarista" is a supporter of Almendares. The place was baseball crazy and the rivalry bitter, so it spawned much memorabilia like this.

Any idea who the Anderson caricature is?

Santos Amaro played from the mid 1930's to the mid 1950's, and my guess is that the flyer is from the mid to late 1940's. It could be Sparky Anderson depicted. I'm sure Ryan would know.

The Anderson is Ferrell Anderson. He played catcher for the Habana team for two seasons: 1948-49 and 1949-50. He was an All-Star in Cuba and somewhat of a fan favorite. Not sure why he didn't play there more. He had an extensive minor league career in the U.S. and played in the majors with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1946 and for the St. Louis Cardinals in 1953.

Santos Amaro was a great Cuban player who played most of his career with the Almendares team. His final season was 1949-50. He is in the Cuban HOF. His son Ruben and his grandson Ruben, Jr. both spent years in the majors. He would have, too, but he was born too soon.

This is another case of the non-major league father being better (by most accounts) than the major league son, similar to the Cepedas, Tiants, or Aparicios.

So anyway, this piece is either from 1948-49 or 1949-50.
