Default Source of this Wagner image?

Posted By: Bruce Babcock

I recently acquired this Jones Keyser Arras cabinet of Wagner and noticed it uses the same photo as his Golden Press card, about 50 years later. Was this pose used for any other Wagner issues? Does anyone know the source and/or photographer of the original image? Do any other Golden Press cards use images found in JKA cabinets?

I believe that the Honus Wagner Hartland Statue was derived from this very pose. In looking at the uniform style, cap, positioning of the bat, etc, I am 99% sure of it.

I always thought they picked an unusual pose for this particular statue... any decent way you try to display it, the bat covers up his face.

I believe JKA was a photography studio.... wouldn't it make sense that Jones, Keyser, Arras or someone who worked for the studio took the photographs and were the source of the image?

The 1960s Golden Press card actually shows more of the photo on the left and right side, so it wasnt made exactly from the JKA photo. They both were designed from another larger photo then cropped.

Bruce,

I can't answer any of your questions, but I do know the following.
Everything I've ever seen you post I wish I had. You've got great taste in cards.

I didn't pose my original question very well. JK&A were of course a photo studio based in NYC and presumably shot the photos they issued. The NYC location explains the preponderance of NY players. Presumably they shot the photos of Wagner, Cobb, etc. on road trips to NYC. Can anyone identify the ball park in the Wagner pic as one of the NYC stadiums?

I just wondered if anyone knows anything more specific about the history of the studio and the photgraphers and if the JK&A photos showed up in any other contemporary issues in the way that Randall Studio and Carl Horner images did.

Also, I assume that the original Wagner photo shown was a b&w image which means the Golden Press card was colorized in some way. If so, they did a pretty good job.
