I don't put much stock in the rookie designation for many prewar HOFers because of their minor league cards. Cochrane has a pre-rookie card in the 1924 Zeenuts set. It is rarer and far more desirable (IMHO) than any of his MLB rookie cards. But then I'm biased in favor of PCL issues anyhow...

calling a minor league card a rookie card is like calling a player in minor leagues a rookie. It may be a first card, but he's not in the majors yet.

Personally, I think paying a premium for the first card or rookie card of a player is just plain silly.
