Great score card. I have seen that many times, but never seen the opposite side [that lists the lineups]. Very cool.

thanks, Richard - but it's actually two different postcards (not a front / back view) of the card at right.

the scorecard w/ the Pirate was not mailed - the lineup card was mailed and has an October 10, 1909 postal cancel

Matt: since Game 1 was played October 8, 1909 and the card was mailed October 10, 1909, the card manufacturer was pretty freakin' efficient !

here's a scan of the back side of the card

Not rare, but tough to find with strong colors and not faded. I believe these were originally red, white and blue, but most are a very color faded pale blue and orange.

Being a HUGE Pirates fan I wish I had more to show.

It's a bit earlier than 1909 but at least has Honus in it!

Default postcards

A caricature of Honus Wagner is found on the far left of the cartoon postcard describing the 1909 pennant race and World Series spoils that await the winner, and is the only copy I know of. The advertising postcard beneath it celebrates opening day at Forbes Field, 1909. Click the link below for more detailed descriptions of them.

My favorite 1909 Pirate, mainly because he was also on the 1907 and 1908 Cubs.
