Default Walter "Smoke" Justis

I posted this yesterday on the card side but got crickets - maybe the memorabilia side can be of help?

I was wondering if anyone has a high resolution scan of the 1912 C 46 Walt Justis card, or, ANYTHING picturing him?

As some of you know I'm a baseball writer/illustrator who specializes in obscure ballplayers. I'm working on an illustration of Walt Justis and am looking for any photo reference of him. So far I've only found the C46 card and a head shot that pops up when you google his name.

I also found 2 team photos (Dayton and Lancaster) from that guy who cuts up old Spalding Guides and sells the individual pages.

Does anyone have anything else on ol' Smoke Justis?

Thanks, - Gary Cieradkowski

Seems not many members have info on him? Good luck in the hunt.

.

... somewhere I have images of both the Lancaster and Dayton Ohio teams that Justis played for. Not sure if he appears in any Detroit Tigers team photos given the short period of time that he was on team in 1905.

Found this link for some Biographical info on Walter Justis:

For a much better scan of his C46 card image, perhaps another Old Cardboard member who has membership in PSA Registry could capture and provide from one of the better quality sets. For now, this is the best I have of that card:

HexsHeroes - Thanks for the scan, that will do perfectly!

I doubt he made it into any of the Tigers team photos. The illustration I'm doing of him is circa 1913 so this Jersey City card is close to that time period than a 1905 Pirates shot.

Thanks again!

Walter Justis' autograph/signature for my collection
