Grover Cleveland Alexander Rookies

I would like to get a concensus of opinion on what everyone thinks Grover Cleveland Alexander's Rookie (notice I did not say Rookie Card) should be amongst the above four options

I voted for the Supplement. I understand how that's not a traditional card, nor are the silks and leathers. But it sure seems to me that the 1913 card is a card; whatever distinguishes it from the Cracker Jack eludes me...

I agree a game card is still that, a card. I'm not voting because I'm torn between the supplement or the game card. I can see the argument against the supplement and silks as they are not really cards but the game card is card, imo.

That being said I'd still rather have a cracker jack or fatima, but that doesn't make it his rookie. Sort of like the 1952 Mantle. It may be his best and most sought after card, but that doesn't make it a rookie.

Ummmm...just a little joke there, Frank. But since you asked, a fair bit nicer than yours. Why? It isn't a particularly rare or valuable card...a few hundred in Near Mint. Undervalued IMO.

And to the point of the thread - I already voted 1913 as RC. Don't see why CJ would be when there was a card a year before.

I agree it isn't the best. When I first held it I was reminded of what a piece of paper was like after a car tire rolled over it on rough concrete. Post your near mint one, so I can praise it's pristine state... I once heard someone say "don't blahh someone else's bling"... My red border Old Mill of Stengel wasn't the nicest out there. A few folks could post nicer ones. The Cleveland Fatima T200 premium I had was a bit worse for wear, but there weren't many folks that had one better. You just posted when I was a bit sensitive about blahhing. Sorry.

I apologize to you - I did not mean any disrespect or to hit any sensitive spot. I don't regard card collecting as competitive. I generally like to encourage my fellow collectors. That is partly why I avoid posting in the monthly pickup threads - sometimes (not always) I feel they take on a competitive vibe.

I was joking because I sometimes think I'm funny...others differ on that . All the best to you and my other brothers in collecting.

I'm still holding out hope of finding a small town Nebraska baseball team postcard with GCA on it...I know one has to exist. Two Dazzy Vance Superior cards have surfaced in the last year.

Looks like the concensus here is the M101-2 as the true Rookie for GCA. I'm kind of surprised that the "card" definition collectors opted more for the 1914 cards than the 1913 cards which were obviously all standard-size traditional cards. I guess the mainstream, nationally distributed thing came into play there.
