It actually looks like a a piece of a T202 triple folder. It's fairly common that the T202 are trimmed and sold as T205.

I have the t205 Joss, too. Also, almost the whole T202 set--Ben's right--unfortunately, there's no Joss.

Dots of missing paper (or pigment) on face and interior of card seem very regularly spaced...spot of missing color above the right-side printing reminds me of...my card! As does the color distribution on the mouth (indiosyncratic to indivisual cards...)

Do you mean to tell me you typed out that ENTIRE URL??? Ok, for next time, simply highlight the URL, then press ctrl-C (copy). Then, go to your address bar at the top of your screen (where it says http://) and press ctrl-V (paste) and then enter.

The mouth and the dot on my card are different. Also: the transitions between colors are smoother. I believe it's a fake (such as it is!)

If your girlfriend is ever looking at your Cobbs and says "I'd like a blue one", you could be ready to meet her needs!

Seller of the "blue" Cobb clearly states that's it's a reproduction and "one of a kind.'" (well, maybe that's a little of an oximoron)LOL (that's the only one I know.

Here's a card that is one end of a T202. Check out the cut on the right. Looks like a pretty clean tear against a straight edge. I don't see how this could ever pass as a T205. Much smaller (same size as the inside?), missing the gold, and the back is different - doesn't say series 400. Also missing team symbol and letter.

I know there are some admirers of the T202 set on the board, but I've always thought that, instead of that "revolutionary' tri-fold design, that the T202's end panels would have made a great set without the middle b/w section and its fellow mate on the other side. Just think, a regular tobacco card size that combines both the white borders of the T206 with the great portrait art and decorative backgrounds of the T205.

Of course, you can collect such a set just by checking out ebay for all the identified (and non-identified) panels--and it wouldn't cost you an arm and a leg. But my guess it would still be quite a challenge.

sorry - couldn't resist.

The first tobacco card I ever saw, other than photos of the famous t206 green portrait Cobb and t205 Cobb, was a t206 Dan McGann - fairly boring, but enought to get me interested. Next I purchased a "3 piece" t202 with ends separate - Jennings and McGraw. To me, this was absolutely the coolest card I had ever seen. I couldn't see how it's being cut up could be a bad thing - if I was a kid and had a pile of these, I think I would have cut them up almost immediately.

A picture is (s0ometimes)worth a bunch of words. Great
black-and-white photography, plus the beautiful lithography of the T205 set.

Julie,

Beautiful cards.

I wish my T205's were near the quality of my Johnson (the card, of course). This card came as part of an original collection from a relative that smoked (a long time ago, in Virginia). This story truely includes a trunk in the attic of the original collector. None of my cards have ever been sold. I lost my collector's virginity this last weekend and bought my first ever card (on ebay), so when it arrives I will have one card that was purchased. My wife is worried about the budget for my new hobby. Imagine that. We'll work through that.

I have no idea what happened to the rest of this T202. It is really too bad.

That Wood panel on the T202 is a beautiful piece of art. I love how it seems to have captured ol' Smokey's questioning gaze, complete with slightly cocked head. The T205 set sure missed out on this card.

Greetings,

I am the seller of the T205 Joss which some are commenting on item # 2784207140.

I have had nothing but positive transactions with several members of this board for the last few years.

I am curious to know why individuals suggest the card is a reprint yet not a single person has contacted me directly for an additional scan or asked a question.

As many of you know I have dealt with hundreds of T205s over the last year or two. Including the sale of 5 T205 Joss cards.

Sure the card is trimmed, it is being sold as a filler for a collector who just wants the card and maybe can not afford a $400-$1000 Joss card.

To my knowledge the card is an original T205, and for anyone who believes differently if you win the card and have a few "experts" examine it I will be more than happy to provide a full refund.

Good luck to anyone who participates in the auction,

Jonathan - only Julie commented with the opinion that the card was a fake. My thought was that it's real, which is also what common sense dictates given its condition, but I did not see the point in contradicting Julie. Others who know you and can also vouch for your integrity probably felt the same way.

It may well be real--it was just that I noticed a big difference between the way your card moves from one color to the next and the way mine does (bought it off "grays")---the transitions in yours are rougher.

But everyone knows that poor condition is no sure sign of authenticity--sellers doctor their fakes by roughing them up for sale as well!

Nothing's certain but death and Lipset. (How'd HE get into this?)
