Default OJ Cap Anson in uniform - how rare is it

Posted By: Colt McClelland

I'm not very knowledgeable on OJ's, so I was wondering if others could comment on how rare the Cap Anson in uniform card that SGC just graded is. In other words, is it really that rare compared to other OJ's, or is it just an extremely desirable card.

My understanding is that there are only 4 known copies of the Old Judge Anson in uniform card. So yeah....extremely rare and one of the premier cards in the hobby.

Is the newly graded SGC Anson new to the hobby? Or is it one of the original known 4?

Didn't SGC also grade a G&B Spaulding over the weekend? And didn't we see that Spaulding posted here abut 6 months ago?

Any explanation as to why the Anson in uniform card is so rare?

But there are a huge number of OJs where specific poses and such are extraordinarily rare - not just the Anson in uniform. It just happens that the Anson in uniform is a particularly cool card of a great baseball pioneer, so it gets a lot of attention. But I've seen some advanced OJ collectors pay thousands for trimmed-down copies of unknown commons because of the rarity of that particular pose, etc.
