Jeff, the plows candy hands down. The card is so uncommon and the pose is fantastic.

Wow....tough decision. I'd go with the Orange Border Cobb in a very close call over the Plow's Cobb. Then again that Casey Stengel.......

No...I'd definitely go with the Orange Border Cobb.

I think...

The Plow's for the same sentiments. Aesthetics and rarity.

All are worth keeping, but if I had to choose I'd keep the Orange border Cobb based on scarcity and condition.

what is your intent?

investment?
historical appreciation?
rarity??
collectability?
bragging rights?

these factor into the decision. The Plows stands out right away as the item I would want for a combination of the above reasons. What's yours?

No one has mentioned the Croft Cobb or the E90-2 Wagner.

Are caramel cards not as popular these days?

Hmm..intent. I pretty much buy whatever I like - no thoughts about price appreciation. I suppose the image is most important followed by rarity.

Wes, I think nobody has mentioned the E92 and the Wagner because those are not nearly as rare/scarce as the other cards shown.

You're probably right, Dan. The E90-2 Wagner is a very easy card. But the Croft Candy is actually pretty tough.....maybe tougher than the orange border. Maybe people don't like it because the same image is recycled in several caramel sets and several tobacco sets.

That one's easy for me...I'd take the E92 Cobb (or any version of that Cobb pose) in an absolute heartbeat. It's in the Top-3 of all cards I'm currently looking for.

Wes, I didn't realize the Croft's was that rare. But I think you're right the image is common so that's probably the reason it hasn't been mentioned.

Mike, yes. As for the E92 Cobb, it's probably the rarest of all the reclining bat Cobbs. And off the top of my head I think there are at least 5 cards with that pose and I'm sure I'm missing some.

The E300 followed by the T210.

I wish that I had to make this decision with my collection.

I'd go with the orange borders, mainly because the plows has always looked more like a newspaper/magazine 'supplement' to me than a card or cabinet...

I'll take the 'common' e90-2 as restitution for the suffering of knowing I can't afford any of them, if you please

Daniel

I like the e300's. I used to have a Bill Dahlen, but I traded it away because of the design. I've heard some folks say that they look like lobby cards and I agree.

Jeff:

If you don't have a Wagner portrait then you need one...that e90-2 is a beautiful card. It has not been hard to find lately because the escalation of prices for ALL Wagner portaits have brought more and more to the market. Once all the e90-2s that have been brought out are safely secured in collections then you may find that there is a period of time that they seem very hard to find. In a nutshell my point is that there is a cycle that the e90-2s seem easy to find right now but that may change for the next cycle (couple of years).

I think the Plows and Orange Borders are ugly so I am biased against those cards. Personally, I have never wanted to own rare cards for the simple fact that they are rare. My opinion would be different if you were collecting sets of Plows or Orange Borders.

The Stengel card is nice. T210s of HOFers are hard to come by, but he was an average player and only known as a great manager because he had a lot to work with on those Yankee teams. Soooo...why get his card.

The e92 is very nice and I believe its value is due for a blip upward if you care about that....not a bad way to go.

the stengel is overrated in my opinion, it's either jax or bust for me with the t210s

if i had to pick i'd take the e300 cobb first and the e92 2nd by a long shot over the others.

If that orange borders Cobb isnt a 1 of 1 its gotta pretty close. While the Wagner is nice its not nearly as tough as the other examples, i see E90 Wagners for sale on an almost weekly basis. I think id have to go with the Orange Borders first, all considered. But those Stengal T210's are very scarce, and in high demand too! Really there all such great cards Id just see what looks to be the best deal, you cant go wrong with any of those choices!

The Plow's Cobb or the E90-2 Wagner. I love the E92 Cobb, but if I am not mistaken, you already have that pose. I mean looking at the back of a card can be nice for a few seconds but the front is where the desirability lies. The Plow's you may never see again for many years and it is a cool batting pose. And the Wagner pose, is well, THE Wagner pose.

none of those are the ones you are going to go really strong on!

I have my eye on the real Lichtman lot. Although I don't want to compete with you.

edit to play along (based only on personal likes not value):

1) Orange Cobby
2) E90-2 Wagner
3) E92 Cobb
4) Stengel
5) Plow's Cobb

Peter, no, these cards are all in the upcoming REA and Mastro auctions. I'm not sure which of these (amongst a few others) that I'll be doing my best to grab.
