Default Josh Gibson?

Posted By: Matt

Are there any issues from his playing period that have Josh Gibson in them? Obviously not any of the major issues, but perhaps one of the scarcer types that I know little about. I've been watching ebay for a month and haven't seen anything.
thanks!

This is it as far as I know...and you probably won't be seeing one on ebay anytime soon.

I see that one went at Lelands for 30k
http://www.lelands.com/bid.aspx?auctionid=603&lot=114

I'm making a display of great players cards from when they played. Since that one isn't an option for Gibson, what would you all suggest I put in for him instead? Anything up to the size of a sheet of paper would be fine. I'd really like something from his time period, even if it's not a real card.
thanks!

The Gibson card, as has been discussed, was issued after he died -- not that it detracts from its value in any way.

I believe in the past someone, perhaps Hal?, identified a postcard issue from his playing days.

But it's the type of postcard people would have printed up themselves. So, right now there's nada of Gibson from his playing days. This is why that Toleteros is so valuable despite it being released so long after his death. I still have hopes for Mexico, though. If there is a card of him, that's where it will be.

Lelands sent a few of the Gibson cards that Dan posted as advertisement for the auction. They were graded. I had one, can't find it right now. You might post on the BST board looking for this card.

There are various wire photos of Gibson from when he played. That's what I have. If you are looking for a period piece, you might try to find one of those.
