Default Heinie Stafford

About a week ago I picked up a 1911 Oneonta baseball team RPPC. I did so because I believe it contains an image of Heinie Stafford, a star player at Tufts, who made the majors with the Giants in 1916 and played in only one game, pinch hitting and making the last out in the last game of the year. After that game he quit baseball to begin a career in business. Stafford, along with many collegiate stars, spent their summers playing in the Adirondacks. In the summer of 1911 he played for Oneonta. The team picture has names written next to all of the players. One player has "Staff" written next to him. I believe that is Stafford. I would be interested in others thoughts on this. If as I believe it is Stafford then, for anyone trying to get an image of everyone who ever played in the majors, this would have to be the holy grail.

Interesting Jay. I loaded a few other pics for you and if you can send me a larger one I will post it too. I enlarged one pic but it's a little fuzzy. Good luck...

PS...here is a larger pic

Thanks Mark. I also think that Conzelman in the top row is Joe Conzelman, who pitched for the Pirates from 1913-15.

Default "brown"

Wonder why Snell is wearing the only "BROWN" jersey?

Most/all of these players were college stars who played summers in the Adirondack League. Snell, for some reason, was probably wearing his college jersey. BTW, I found an excellent SABR article on line about Heinie Stafford:

Ken Nash (Naps '12, Cardinals '14) and Wally Snell (Red Sox '13) were also short-term major leaguers. Both attended Brown University.

Heinie Stafford looks a lot like D.J. Qualls
