Here's a list of rare and vintage sports books. Always looking to trade for titles I don't have, or early Western Canada baseball ephemera or cards.

Shipping is included (It costs about $12 to ship the average book from Canada to the U.S.; there is no book rate in Canada).

All books are protected with removable archival Bro-dart clear dust jacket protectors unless noted.


1933 Who's Who in Major League Baseball by Speed Johnson. Certainly the most impressive baseball book of the 1930s. While reasonably common, it is very hard to find with the dust jacket. Large size, with incredible sepia toned photos of players and those in the game. The book is in near fine condition with no marks. The dust jacket is in poor to fair condition with chipping and separation but looks very presentable in the bro-dart. $550


Our Baseball Club and How it won the championship, 1884 EF Dutton. Pictorial cover, no dust jacket. This is the first baseball fiction book with a substantial amount of baseball content. A very presentable color cover in good condition with typical rubbing. A cornerstone of any early baseball book collection. $500


Smitty at the Ball Game by Walter Berndt, 1929. Very good in good dust jacket with chipping. Babe Ruth on cover. Very tough to find in dust jacket. $325

Pitching in a Pinch, Christy Mathewson, 1912, promo card for Mathewson's 1912 Putnam Pitching in a Pinch. Center fold with coffee staining as can be seen (as least it's vintage coffee). This promo card is many times rarer than the Putnam first edition, which is tough to find in its own right. I have seen only two copies of this promo card in 20 years of collecting SOLD


Pitcher Pollock by Christy Mathewson. 1914. This is the very tough to find Dodd Mead dust jacket. The Dodd Mead edition is also larger than the fairly common Grosset & Dunlap reprint edition. The book is in very good condition with faded lettering on spiine. The DJ is in poor condition with much of the top of the lettering missing on the spine of the DJ. Still, very difficult in any DJ. $295


Pitching in a Pinch, 1913, by Christy Mathewson. This is a 1913 or so printing and is in the very collectible and very tough to find Boy Scouts dust jacket. The book is in very good condition, with pencil inscription on front free endpaper. The dust jacket presents well, except has the bottom 40% of the dj spine missing and shallow chipping at top, although all of "Pitching" is still visible. $275


Pitcher Pollock by Christy Mathewson. Grosset & Dunlap edition, circa 1920, with bright green boards. Dust jacket is in very good condition with just light chipping at top and bottom of spine, not affecting writing. Another one of Matty's fiction books. Very tough to find in dust jacket. $175


The Al Kaline Story by Al Hirshberg, 1964. First ediiton. Near fine, but with name blacked out on front free endpaper in very good+ dust jacket. Messner editions were often destined for libraries and as such are tough to find in non-ex-library state. $150



The Willie Mays Story, by Ken Smith, Greenberg, 1953. Near fine in very good bright dj but with scotch tape remnant at bottom. An early hard to find bio of Mays. First edition hardback. $145


Mickey Mantle of the Yankees by Gene Schoor. Putnam. Fine in very good dust jacket. Another title that is very hard to find in non-library condition. $135


Pitching in a Pinch, by Christy Mathewson, Grosset & Dunlap (not Boy Scouts), no dust jacket. Good+ condition. 1920s reprint edition. $85
